mark Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Not saying they arent good birds but its an awful lot of money Im afraid if thats what it takes to get decent birds I wont be racing again must be very disheartening for anyone coming into the sport going to a sale and seeing those sort of prices but then sales arent to promote newcomers into the sport they are their mainly to make money like anything else that is for sale nowdays best bird i ever bought cost me 8 pound so it just goes to show you dont always have to spend astronomical sums of money to get the best got it in a nutshell rose you can see why its a dieing sport with inflated prices not for the working man.

Evans is the very last person to blame. It's to their credit - not detriment - that they've created a family that are incredibly successful & sought after on a WORLDWIDE basis

Prices are only a reflection of the demand for the goods on offer. There are prices available to suit all pockets and the price you pay doesn't always infer greater quality. I got given seven squakers the other day, bred off the right stuff from a proven distance family, and who's gonna argue that I won't do as well with those free latebreds than I would spending £500+ per pigeon at the Evans or Mardon sales? What am I missing out on at these sales ... very little I suspect apart from the 'badge' ... for which I'd have had to pay a very high price.

Roundo Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Just as Mike says, these are the prices that fanciers are willing to pay when birds of this class go under the hammer. Not forgetting that there were quite a few birds that sold for between £150 - £350, direct from top class stock. I myself was fortunate enough to make a purchase which was well within my budget, but you can see how easy it is for fanciers to get caught up in the action as soon as the adrenaline gets going. Guest TAMMY_1 Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Have to agree with North Wales Novice here there are plenty folk on here that would give any new starter birds another name is George Briggs who I know gives plenty birds away [ ask that scrounger Maverick ] and I doubt anyone on the forum would refuse to help a new starter if they could, this forum has plenty good honest pigeon men and women on who will help with anything.
Guest Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Sale and demand. No demand No sale simple as. New starters don't have to go to these sales to start in the game. It's like horse racing when you want buy your kid a horse to ride around the fields you don't go buy a foal off this years grand national winner, but if later on you want to ride in a grand national then you consider buying blood from a national competing stud. Then if you wanna win a grand national you buy from the national winning blood. It all depends on what they are worth to you, where you want to get to and how quick you can get there. At the end of the day these people have created national winning families through their own hard work, dedication and not being afraid to spend money - why shouldn't they now reap the benefits. In case anyone is wondering I can't afford these sort of prices so I will never be purchasing some of these wonderful birds, but other more wealthy people will and they will reap the benfits from this outstanding family for years to come. Just my opinion.
