sapper756 Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 Same as you Craig, my dad has the birds and I decided to go up on Saturdays and watch for the birds coming home. Low and behold I caught the bug, that was 12 years ago.
Pompey Mick Posted October 20, 2006 Report Posted October 20, 2006 Same as a lot of you lads, it's an inherited trait. My Dad and his brothers used to race in the late 40's, early 50's. Dad finished with the birds for about 15yrs but as soon as I was big enough to go to the Club I was 'encouraged' to keep pigeonsi n the early 60's and I've had them ever since.

kev01293 Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 got started after watching my brother race pigeons but he gave up, about 2 years later when i was about 11-12 years old i decided to start up on my own and me and some mates used to climb into the attics of the old derelict buildings in brighton and catch the stray racers which sometimes ended up with me being escorted home by the police but this didnt deter me as the pigeon bug had well and truly bitten,i carried on keeping pigeons for about another 5 years and then stopped when i moved into a flat,i restarted 2 years ago[aged 42] when me and my wife and kids moved into a house and i wouldnt be without them now[the wife, kids and pigeons] kev

Peckedhen Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 Bought a dovecote and a couple of fantails, began to read about pigeons and decided to get racing pigeons and a loft...
Guest Hjaltland Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 I always went to see the Lerwick liberations as a kid. A couple pair of homers ordered from the 'Exchange & Mart' for £2 and and that was it!.... Dont know if the stock has improved much since then heheh!
Beanz Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 Kept fantails and others had them in a brick outhouse, chap at the back also had them didn't look after them out all the time never went in his loft eventually they went feral and dissappeared ssaid I had took them and reported me to the local council as you were only allowed racing pigeons in council houses and then to strict rules, when council officials came told my mother I would either have to get shut or get a loft and get racers and join a club, did me a favour that guy.
