Tony C Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 My father has pigeons that have black tips to their tongues which is a trait of the family, I've heard it said that it can also be a sign of respiratory. I'm more inclined to believe its a throwback from somewhere down the line, I know a successful fancier that puts a high regard on pigeons especially hens that carry this trait. Have you come across this trait in any of your pigeons?
jimmy white Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 i think you could be right there as ive had it through various families [or birds] but i think some fanciers confuse this with looking at a bird that has been eating black minerals, as far as respitory , i would think they would show other signs first,, just my thoughts
Wiley Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 ive had birds with a tip of black before and no trouble ive won with this birds,i think you have to be sure that you dont get it confused with a tip of a blue tongue then i believe the respiratory problem is in the pigeon.
Roland Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Normally it isn't a sickness. But like the blue tongue, it's a condition that occures when the protein level in the diet is to excess. If one slowly increases the Carbo levels with cerial grains and some PEARL Barley it becomes normal.
Guest anthony Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Tony can we know the race results of this family??????
Tony C Posted November 9, 2006 Author Report Posted November 9, 2006 Even though my father still has pigeons they haven't seen the inside of a basket for 10-15 years now. He has two families, one he got from an old Polish bloke that used to live in East London ( wouldn't even attempt to try and spell his name ) the other family he has are Boykens (spelling?). I think its the later that carry the black tongues (also some of these carry feather legs), not 100% on that though.
Wiley Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Tony is the old polish fancier Gus Trokonoski or somewhere along the lines probably spelt the name wrong as ive ehard alot about this fancier from my father if it is let me know mat he used to race in Plastow WMC he lived near the green gate hill
Tony C Posted November 9, 2006 Author Report Posted November 9, 2006 Could be him Wiley, thought there was a 'j' chucked in there somewhere lol I'll find out for sure and let you know.
