Ronald Koeman Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Q7: hello, what does raymond look for when purchasing a hen, many thanks mark A7: I think you read the answer of this question in the tekst Stuart write. Apple, Good color eys, strong back and not to big. Q8: does he believe in crossing his birds, thanks scott A8: I started to build my family with birds from 2 different lines. I bring an other line in but these was also based on the same Aarden pigeons. Now I don't think its allready needed to cross my pigeons because I am not on a dead end. A very good lucky thing is that my pigeons accepted inbred very well. My "Blauwe Bertus" 1st Natinal St.Vincent was bred from a halfbrother x halfsister.
Ronald Koeman Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Q 9: Raymond what advice would you give to a new starter taking up our great sport. A9: keep your ears open and listen to what people say. You can learn from good fanciers to do some things they do, you can also learn from bad fanciers to do not what they do. Than make your own system, if you think that is the system what is the best for you and your pigeons than believe in that and don't chance it time after time. You can chance some details but let the pigeons learn how your system works. Make a start on 1. a good loft, most importent, 2. good pigeons and 3. everything you do for your birds they give it back to you.
john robo Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 what vaccine do you use for Paratyphoid. when do you use it and how often.
frank-123 Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 HI ronald/raymond what feed would you recommend ?and does this change for long distance?
jimmy white Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 many thanks raymond, very interesting reading,, hope we get more :)
jimmy white Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 when sending pigeons 550 miles or further ,,,what preparation ,,ie, how many races previous , how much training apart from flying one hour at the loft?
Ronald Koeman Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Q10: how do you feed your birds for races 500 miles and over? A10: I think you can find the answer by answer A2 Q11: Can you describe what you look for in a long distance pigeon s wing? A11: Maybe you don't believe me but I am not somebody who look to many details of a pigeon. There are some things I like to see but that are more things like a golden eye and a strong body with a good back. I am very lucky that my pigeons look very nice in the hand. On shows I always get many points for my pigeons. So because of that I think my pigeons are nice build. The only thing I maybe think is important for a long-distance pigeon is that the bone close to the body is short and not long, that is more for sprint pigeons
Ronald Koeman Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Q12: Do you use a darkening system with your old birds? if so do you find this to be a great advantage in the longer distance races. A12: I don't use it, maybe it is a good system to let the pigeons keep there veders for a longer time. In Holland they say that Koopman use this system but that is short and middle distance. Let me say one thing, some people try every system what others told them to do. I think, first of all you must win good prizes without any system, than to win the TOP prizes you must think about things you can chance to let you pigeons race faster. If you cant ride a bicycle why do you want to know than how to win de Tour the France ? Many system are in the beginning the things to do to win races and because some topracers use the system everybody want to know how it works. Than after one or two years the topracers don't use it anymore because they find out that it was not so good as they tought it was or there are many bad things happened with the pigeons they didn't know that it became to use that system. If you race longdistance don't ask from your pigeons that they win a middledistance race. Use them for the races you wanne have good results. There are for sure good fanciers who use some systems but I know for 100% there are also good fanciers who use any "system" at all. And maybe, the way I train and race my pigeons somebody else say, that the system of Raymond Moleveld, and I think I do the things what I think I must do.
