Oke, I will try to answer the questions.

Maybe you must read my answer 2x because my english is not 100%.

Q1: I would like to hear Raymond's views on vaccinating against Paratyphoid. Does he vaccinate?

A1: I do vaccinate my pigeons for Paratyphoid. Before I give them a liquid for 3 weeks and than I vaccinate them.

If you give the liquid before the vaccination is not so heavy for the birds.

Q2: what sort of distances are those for him?

I would be interested to hear his views on how  he conditions his birds for the distance? 550 miles plus

including feeding and training?

what does he look for in his familiy of birds?

A2: Brive = 520 miles, St.Vincent = 670 miles, St.Quentin = 210 miles and Gennep = 100 miles.

I only race my pigeons natural and give them all day the food that they want.

Two times a day I let them out and they must train. I the beginning some pigeons stay on the nest but if they understand what I want them to do they train for 1 hour.

I give Mariman race food with the red corn and I also give my pigeons peanuts.

Before a big race I go to my veterinary and he take a look if my birds don't have anything bad.

In make my longdistance family with pigeons van Sam de Jong from Heemskerk and Antoon Ligtenberg from Steenbergen, based on the Jan Aarden strain.

Before I buy pigeons I do a good investigation about the birds.

The best thing to do is buy pigeons who are from a good racing family and were the breeders are also based on the same lines.

I am very succesfull with grandchildren from "De Ligtenberg" and "Don Leo"

In all my best racers you find those pigeons in the pedigree.

It is not only luck that they are in the pedigree's they must have quallity and give this to there children and grandchildren.

Q3: WHAT WOULD HE SAY IS THE BEST COCKS OR HENS FOR THE LONGER RACES 500+ MILES  AND WHY????

A3: I race my pigeons natural because than I can race my hens and cocks.

I think that a hen will finish better when it is a very hard race.

When the pigeons are good motivated than I think it make not so much difference what they are.

My Brive and St.Vincent winners are both cocks and raced on a youngster of

7 or 8 days.

The two birds who came together from Barcelona in 2002 were a hen and a cock.

Mont de Marsan was in 2002 a very hard race and "Shady" . a hen, was my first pigeon and win the 17nd National against 7425 b.

Q4: hi stuart could you ask raymond if he uses preventitive medications, and if so which ones and why.

A4: I don't use preventitive medications but I always ask my veterinary if my birds needed some medication yes or no.

I am lucky that my veterinary, Drs Hans van de Sluis, lives at 10 minutes from me so its easy to visit him.

If he say you must do this or that than I do that.

Three weeks before the first great race I visit him and sometimes I give then something against cancer.

When the season is started most of the times I do nothing.

What I do is give Belgasol from Drs Henk de Weerd afterthe pigeons come home.

Its a liquid with electrolites so the pigeons recuperate faster.

Can you describe what you look for in a long distance pigeon s wing?

Posted

Ronald,

Do you use a darkening system with your old birds? if so do you find this to be a great advantage in the longer distance races.

Hi Ronald

You say you give them a liquid. Can i ask what kind of liquid you give them? And why do you give it for so long? Do you give a probiotic after? What type of vaccine do you use is it live or dead.

Maybe to give Raymonds Fingers a rest I can give a summery of his system. This only really applies to his distance pigeons.

Starting with young birds, Raymond is lucky in the fact that his distance pigeons exercise very well, when they are given there freedom so once they are flying freely and the young bird races have started they are entered into a 60 or 70km fly with little or sometimes no training (I don’t recommend this but he gets away with). After 1, 2 or 3 flights the pigeons are left to moult.

The main racing system is natural for long distance with both the cock and hen flying and its normal for Raymond to Fly the yearlings to Bordeaux or Bergerac, Two year olds to Brive or St Vincent and the 3 year olds and older to Barcelona.

Nest positions and pairings are left natural so that there are different pigeons on different positions on any one weekend. Raymond has enjoyed great success flying to young in the nest believing its given them extra motivation.

On selecting pigeons Raymond normally looks for Balance with a strong back (a must for distance flying). He is lucky in the fact that his pigeons have incredible eyes but he doesn’t pay so much attention to it!!! One thing Raymond does like to do is bred extra children from his very top pigeons and put them back for stock, regardless if he needs them or not!!! He does like apple shaped pigeons and he likes to see the tongue stay down when you open the beak.

On medication one thing Raymond forgot to mention is Respiratory treatments. Both his Brive and St Vincent winners were given a Respiratory Treatment three weeks before basketing, the treatment came from Van De Sluis.

Raymond, maybe Van De Sluis could pay us a guest visit to explain his Paratyphoid Treatment????

With regard to wings I will leave that to Raymond.

Q5: does raymond think dutch fanciers and birds are far superior to the uk flyers/birds

or not much difference

is so what are they?

A5: I don't think you can say that the one or the other is better.

I think the better short distance racers are in Belgium and the best longdistance pigeons are from Dutch origine.

You can see what kind of pigeons the fanciers have in England.

If those pigeons are arrived in England than they must prove that they can handlle the different situation than they have before.

The landscape is totally different and also they must race over the sea and sometimes from Nord to South.

So what I think is that the bases of the pigeons are the same and the reason that English fanciers buy pigeons from Belgium and the Netherlands in not for nothing, but that the English fanciers than create harder pigeons by selecting them and raced them by totally different sucomstances ( ? ) .

Q6: who does raymond think is the best distance flier in holland and why?

A6: I think the best in Holland is Nico Volkens from Bergen.

He lives in the nord of holland and so his pigeons must fly more miles than most of the other birds.

In the championship of the ZLU he was also this year the best fancier.

The following is not the reason why I say Nico Volkens, check his results and you can see with your own eys that he raced very well.

Nico build up his raceteam with pigeons from Sam de Jong from Heemskerk.

The same person were I have my pigeons from.

Nico bought his first pigeons by Sam in 1990 and I bought them in 1991.

Nico has a very famous breeding pair called "Het Bonte Koppel" they breed a lot of good children and grandchildren for Nico and everybody in Holland who is interested in longdistance piogeons knowing this pair.

I also must say, there are not so many fanciers in Holland who race very very good with the pigeons of Nico.

I think that in this case you can say, you buy the pigeons but not the guy who raced them.

Its for 100% sure that pigeons who are based on Sam de Jong his birds belong to the best pigeons from Holland.

Ofcourse we also have Jan Theelen, Kuipers Bros and Hagens Bros but because they sell many many more pigeons than Sam de Jong there are more pigeons from those lines in the race so its normal you read more of this strains.

If you can find the results of Sam de Jong, Nico Volkens, Jan Roelofs, Cees Niesten and Raymond Moleveld, put them together and you be suprised how many top results these 5 fanciers won with the same lines of pigeons.

And than you must know what I write before, Sam has a small loft have maybe 12 breeding pairs but they were absolute fantastic in the years 1990 to 2002.

Because some people from the "Land with the rising sun"  buy his best breeders he don't have the same quallity of pigeons anymore.

Thats also the reason why Sam now come to me for some pigeons from his old strain because I never sold them and my breeders are closer to his old breeders than his own stockbirds.

You must believe me, I don't say this for my own goodness I think it is so.
