Fancy as to racing.

You know, I often like the idea of having a few fancy birds,  (Feathered sort of course lol)

Did do for a spell as a kid, and again when first married in 68.

cat problems put paid to that... but didn't know then what I know now.

As a lad, when father was racing, us brothers had Tipplers, tumblers etc. and throughly enjoyed them. But dad was adament that you couldn't do bother, nor mix the fancy one up. With only a really small garden I guess it would have been awkward to say the least.

If ever I packed up racing, I'd deffinately have Fancy and tippler / rollers / tumblers etc.

Toy too often with the thought of getting another set up for them. Thought of turning me work shed into a split sectional loft....

But agian I suppose it brings out the part of me that is a Pigeon lover, Keeper as to a real darn win at all cost racing man. I just love to se them peck up every day of the year in the garden. hawks, and even now sometimes cats, are a pain of course in that regard.

Are whimsical thinking, wishing eh!

Well if I was you Roland !!!!!!!! I would give it a go etc, in getting some fancy birds :P if your past it (racing) like I'm, one could say  :'( :'( :'(. Never at any stage in my short carreer   ;) have I ever thought that racing pigeons were better than some of the fancy breeds as an example, that many people keep in their back yards for enjoyment/pleasure & really speaking, if you really think about it etc & you take away all the bullsh*t  that we both have been swimming through   :) for all these years together "LOL" it all comes back to that little word enjoyment. So at the end of the day in the big picture, one should not be to concerned what others may be doing or thinking in this sport/hobby & you should just do your own thing with what ever birds  ;D ;D you may fancy, at any given time.

many years ago i had a few fancy pigeons,, dragoons and show racers , even crossed both > had a cross dragoon fly 250 miles  ;D   but did enjoy the shows and company,, when racing w,hood these birds were handy for bringing  up some of the better eggs [or from  the better racers but brought a lot of fun in the winter months,,]    one very top national flying judge remarked, after, giving a first, to a 2yearold ;D "ill bet that bird has scored over  the water [the channel]"  ;D im afraid the only water it could fly over ,,,,,,,,was the burn ;D ;D ;D,,true ;D,,,,,,,,,, but they did give me fun , both judging and showing    [but goes to prove , looks aint everything when racing ;D]

Jan Zyanotta from Gretton won a 250 miler with a Fantail cross. Had performed well in  previous races... Had heard of such the odd time before. But of course in reality that is a bone numma.

MAY indeed take up them fine offers above.

Closed down two sections to store the wood and coal. Bought in bulk while I thought I could afford to ... or not not be able to later lol

Still have thre sections, and a new - nigh complete - stock loft, airvery is now complete, just need the boxes placed and raised upon a firm standing.

Will have 12, and four boxes over. Doubt if I'll every get 12 pairs though by a long chalk.

Ive often heard tho old wives tale, that Joe bloggs had a tippler cross to go out and win the LNRC of Thurso, xxxx amount of years ago, but i myself have gone round blackpool and thought i might just take a pair of them home or at least a hen as a flirt bird, especially like the agrression of those modenas and kings

As a child I had fancy pigeons. About seven years ago I had a pair of brown Jacobins. I put them on the loft roof when the pigeons were exercising. With their big hoods the hawks thought they were owls and stayed away -- at least for a while. Scared the droppings out of the birds when I first put them into the loft. They all rushed to the top perches -- three and four to a perch to avoid the "owls" on the floor! They soon figured out these were just lambs in wolves clothing.

ive promised my nieces for long enough to get some fancy birds and to be honest i cut my race birds back not that ive raced much will just keep an small team and the spare section i will get some fancy birds

We have a mealy giant runt that is meant to deter hawks, not sure if it works but we have very little bother

I changed from Racers to Tipplers about a month maybe 6 weeks ago. Had 6 pairs of tipplers and they were all on eggs within a few days. The youngsters are now flying about 5-6 hrs every other day. Great to sit in the garden seeing these birds way up in the sky. I do however still have a dozen white logans I need to get rid of to make way for the young tipplers.

The fancy or "showing world" is huge and is just as competative as the racing world,you can make alot of friends and be just as buisy with the showing scene as you can with the racers and quite alot of the breeds will live ok together if required although it's not ideal during showing or breeding as their requirements do differ.

It keeps the sport going all year round.
