Guest Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 I know from other postings some use cod liver oils . Tell me how please , when etc is it possible to give to 1 bird only ? thank you andy 8)
PIGEON_MAN Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Andy,If you wish to treat one bird only you can get cod liver oil in capsule form from any chemist, ones i got at the moment are made by seven seas.
schouwman71 Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 i use a table spoon to a small tub of corn ,4 times a week when breeding,0nce a week for widowcocks and twice a week for youngsters.Again 7 seas.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Andy,If you wish to treat one bird only you can get cod liver oil in capsule form from any chemist, ones i got at the moment are made by seven seas. RED SEA , BLACK SEA, DEAD SEA, CASPIAN SEA, NORTH SEA, IRISH SEA AND I CANNAE SEE , IS THAT THE SEVEN SEAS YOU ARE MEANING
jimmy white Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 youll get a half gallon of c.l.o at any agricultural store for the price of a big bottle of seven seas , but off course the seven seas will be of better quality as its for human consumption,, if mixing it with grain youll find it better soaked in some groats, as with maples and tic beans it doesnt absorb so easy and doesnt take much to mark the birds [mind you it comes off quick , but its just if your thinking of entering them for a show]
Guest Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 put it on the birds toast in the morning.... ;D ;D ;D..the others were right i always put it on corn then put vitamins sprinkled on the corn....try to do it when they are hungry.....paul
Guest Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Agree with Jimmy about all the tests that stuff meant for human consumption goes thro usually makes it far better than stuff meant for animal consumption. Peanuts is a good relevant example, humans only 100% mould free good enough to sell, but for animals 95% mould free is good enough to sell. Much said in jest, ;D but Tammy's seventh seas sees the north sea as a dead sea ;D is also very relevant : we're maybe munching our way thro the last of the cod stocks ... the fish wot our oil comes from. Read yonks ago that Halibut oil was a better oil than Cod, can't remember where or why. But the why of no cod left seems a good reason for checking it out now?
Guest Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 ;D Thanks all for your replies have a (human quality) capsule at the ready will try these on my old stock cock as soon as ........ will try 2 a week 2c how it goes ? any further comments appreciated thank you andy 8)
PIGEON_MAN Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Andy,i,ve been giving a old hen of mine one of the capsule,s each day, doesn,t seem to be doing her any harm but it does seem to be making a slight improvement as she seemed to be a bit wobbly on her legs.

Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 coat all the corn, and let it dry,or give them capsules
birdman55678 Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 Just put it on the feed, shake it up real good, leave it sit overnight and feed it the next day. Works everytime. Ed
birdman55678 Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 If you wanted to just give it to one bird you could probably do so by just putting a drop down its throat with an eyedropper. I personally haven't done this though. Ed
stantheman Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 I went to a moot a few years ago where the panel advised against the over use of cod liver oil as apparrently the birds looked great but performances following season were poor due to overdosing on vit D. for info on panel was g.kirkland and one from porter and richardson both top fliers in anybodies book
