Water is a slightly different tack from Clockman's thread, Roland, but related I suppose.  :)

For information, the NW Fed transporter carries its own drinking water for the birds. 50 gallon plastic tank, electric water pump, plastic pipes and gun. Plastic again for easy clean, easy disinfect [most disinfectants tarnish metal].

Water is on outside in an individual plastic drinker to each basket, but can be supplemented by two further plastic drinkers which go inside each basket, along the side walls, and they sit on the plastic grid floor. These can be for water or for food.

Individual water on the basket was to prevent spread of water borne disease thro transporter. Reckon could go one logical step further by having a drinkable water sanitiser in the 50 gallon tank, to prevent water borne disease spreading amongst individual birds in a basket.

Well Bruno the water system for yours is as it should be ... shows how many, including us ... lag behind.

As for surfaces, wood  wins as it will sink in a little first off... plastic it can't. Sure Plastic is easier to clean etc. but by then, over night, hold overs, the damage is done a lot quicker. Plastic leaves it out in the open straight off.
