Roland Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 post from a mate who has sadly passed on. Was originally from Near Manchester, namely Bob Flemmings. Was always in the wars it semed, as one loved or disliked him. Possibly the Man on the eyesign theory. remember his posts like, the following, and as for eyesign he had no peers... but then I am never one for eyesign theory. But the following is typical of yearster year When I was a kid, (a few years back) I flew to 10x 5 gallon grease tins nailed 5' off the ground to a wooden fence. I had to place the lids back on them every night to keep the cat's out. These had dozens of holes made in them with big nails from the inside and this would cut the paw's of the cat's that jumped up at them. These lids had to be taken off every morning so as to let the birds out for a fly, but they were more than happy in those tin drum's and, that is perhaps the most valuable lesson that a pigeon novice can learn. GET AND KEEP THEM HAPPY. They don't need all this fancy 60'long crap we build today, they can be made happy flying to anything that is secure, warm, clean and dry, and sheltered from the weather. I won my first race flying to one of those 5 gal steel drums..Those were the day's. I used to take a small kids bucket and spade to school each day, and would stop at the railway yards on the way home to sweep out the corners of the wheat cars. That's how I fed them as a kid. Got my ass kicked many times by the railway yard guards who tried to keep me out of there. Finally, after being expelled from school several times because of pigeons, they, the head master and my mother, persueded my old man to build me a little shed for my birds. And from then on, I was the king of all the kids who kept pigeons in my neighbourhood and for miles around. Still got some old black and white pictures of all that stuff back then. The kids today don't seem to be as determined as we were. My buddy kept his birds in a big banana box in his bed room for ages before he got cought. His name was Clyde Drury HA HA HA. I think he still has pigeons also.
