jimmy white Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 cant understand that robert, if their fit enough to go down for a tread they should be fit enough to stand back up after being treaded,, maybe you could elaborate on this,,,only other thing could be that the hens have actualy lost the power of their legsb4 treading, and the cocks are just jumping on,, this can happen to hens just, laid or on the point of lay , which there are other reasons for :-/ :-/ :-/

jimmy white Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 white sesquins are tablets jimmy were used for going light and wet droppings, but if u send for the big bottles as you say you might get brewers droop your quite right wiley, but the old hands elementals [yeast and calcium] are the best to give a bird that looses the power of its legs during laying[they come in a twin small bottle pack] the white sesqui is actualy bicarb of soda [ invented by white ie the name ;D ;D ;D ;D] did you say MIGHT get brewers droop ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D no comment ;D ;D ;D

Guest Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 Extract from Wim Peters 'Fit to Win' Calcium deficiency is a definate and common cause of paresis in hens, just prior to, during or after laying. The calcium necessary for egg shell production is derived from the blood stream and skeletal system and if not replaced by dietary intake, insufficient circulating calcium results in impaired nerve function to the muscles, giving rise to paresis of the legs. Treatment, using a subcutaneous injection of calcium effects a quick response but the provision of shell grit or some other form of easily digestible calcium (eg. cal-C-vita), is essential for continued good health. Magnesium supplements are also reported to be effective.
Guest Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 Think it was Wim Peters who (also) said that the main nerve to the legs runs near the oviduct and passage of the egg can cause temporary paralyses, hen recovers OK afterwards.
Guest Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 Yeah I think you are right bruno, I read that aswell.

Bobthegas Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 If the hens just lay there smoking a fag then everything is fine, but if they get up and walk bandy then the cock is on the large size...lol Bob
