My son (aged 7) and daughter (aged 5) have now joined Todmorden homing society in their own right.

On Saturday 03/01/2007 we, me, son and daughter are going to start building their loft from scratch, 2x2 timber frame and then boarded, we are going to keep a photo journal on our website to show you, (a) how to build a loft and (B) to show it can be done with kids.

I will be updating the site with new photos every sunday night till the loft is finished, then the kids are going to put their results on when y. bird season starts.

so the journal will keep up to date from building the loft to the end of first season racing. ;D

we have been advised this will raise a lot of interest so check it out sunday night,04/01/2007.

cheers

yes thats fine westy, I'm also going to put prices on (what we spend building the loft)

we are doing as cheap as possible, but I promise it will be a loft to be proud of.

We've been hard at it this morning, built the framework for floor.

Update will be put on the website tonight (about 9.00 ish) got some great photos and the kids were brilliant. ;D

I went for a drink last night and I was overwhelmed with the comments I received in every pub!. This is turning out to be quite a project, we've got people from all over the world keeping up with the updates, if you'd like to leave a comment, just put it in the 'shout box' on the website.

cheers

P.S. hope the bird flu situation doesn't stop us from racing our birds.

Jason what you are doing with your kids and getting them involved in the sport is first class. They will remember building that loft with you the rest of their lives. I remember building a loft with my son he was 12 years old now he is 6ft 3 and brings me to the blackpool show and comes to stay at my house to look after birds when I want to go on holiday, etc. My two girls age 13 and 15 would not miss a race, all the family is out in the garden on race day and on good days we have a barbecue, etc. I try my best to make it a family day and not just my day. I will let my wife and kids pick a bird on friday night and the one who picks the first bird home to my loft wins a small prize that way all the family get fun from pigeons racing.

Cheers pigeonscout, good idea choosing a bird on a friday night and 1st back gets a prize.

We have had a small problem this morning.........

I launched the project on 'Todmorden chat' its a forum for all people from Todmorden, anyway I mentioned it on there so non-fanciers could see whats going on.

Straight away I was told it wouldn't work because 'its a known fact pigeons are flying rats' , This really upset me and the kids and I've been arguing on the forum all day about the fact that racing pigeons are not flying rats. I also told them to take a look at the website and the links hoping I could change their minds.

The problem is that the people in question are so narrow minded.

And the kids beleive everything they hear so its not been good for us this morning.

Thanks for all the positive comments
