Guest TAMMY_1 Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 is the pigeon small. NO SMALLER THAN ANYOTHER HENS I HAVE
Guest Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 Egg-laying when it goes wrong seems pretty complex as far as reasons go. Have seen the young hen small egg, and the older hen small egg and reckon neither had a yolk in them. I believe neither are what they appeared to be, they are not proper eggs. Each of the two ovum divides into two, one of which is larger and goes on down the tubes to be laid as the fertile egg we know, the other is smaller, doesn't develop further and supposedly just 'disappears'. One of my young hens last year laid 3 eggs in her very first lay, the first was a 'tiny' egg the like of which I have come to expect from a very young hen, (3-4 months) and the other two were normal size. Reckon that tiny one was the smaller of the original ovum division, and somehow got shelled.

madmaxlofts Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 you sometimes find that the 1st round ov eggs off yearlings are on the small side then the next round are normal sized eggs
Guest Paulo Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 had this with a yearling hen this year
