i would breed of al mybirds in my loft (which im doing) and race all the young birds out what ever is left i will cross and then cross agin and then it will slowly start to form my own family

wiley i dont think that matters any more, coz say for example peter van den merwe buys a pigeon from gaby vandenabeele that pigeon automaticly is called a peter van den merwe, not a vandenabeele.

but i no what u mean and i would say, if u buy stock in then there children win thats when i belive that your family starts from the children of your stock then if they go on to produce even better pigeons then u can start calling it your family of birds.

Thanks for your answer guys but im on about concerning how to make all your birds handle near enough exactly the same like alot of lofts do have, but at mine there all shapes and sizes.

Race 'em right through to the  500 mile  plus stage. Year in year out. Treat the winners  and "sports" likewise. None in cottonwool! Bring a GOOD CROSS in, every few years. And then, you should end up with a better percentage of reliable pigeons than most. Always remember that  at least 90% of all pigeons bred, never do the business racing.  ;) Vic.

Methods:

Two full/half brothers. one mated to the other's daughter

Two full/half brothers. one's son mated to the other's daughter

Two full sisters, or half sisters bred from the same father. one mated to the other's son

brother and sister mating, both bred from same father but different mothers.

This is the janssen brothers way of doing it and I can think of no better family of pigeons.

Does that not just keep that complete family going pigeonscout but just bred in a different loft? i think you just cross with your own birds for 2 yrs or more and thats your family best to best wont go far wrong

May be OK using brothers and sisters. But my brother and I play Rugby, All we have in common is we are both fair players. Buggerd if we play alike. Diferent shapes and skills. Like you our birds show some variation but less each year. Select what you like the birds to do. I think with time they start to show some similarity. Ours are starting to look the same. No introductions this year, and they will all go to 600miles, for two year olds, and 500 for yearlings. I know they may be thin on the ground next winter but ???????????

Breed around your 'best to best' for ten years and let the basket sort em out!!!! then you certainly can call them your own ;D

Betcha a month's pay you dont last ten years without taking in a bird or two!  :X

Bring a good top hen in every 2-3 years and put her with your best cocks in your loft, then pair those youngsters into your other "GOOD" Birds you already have, after a few years you will have the line of the top hen running through your stock so after 6 years all your top breeders will run down from your top hen that you brought in.
