Guest Hjaltland Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 I'd like to install a webcam in the loft and run a cable back to the house, 15-20m, Anyone offer advice on what would be the best one to buy considering dust, quality and distance from the house. Also whats involved in setting these up. I see they are not all that expensive...
Guest jason Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 The one I have is a 'Playstation 2 eye cam' bought for £45 off ebay and its great, did have trouble getting usb leads long enough though, I'm actually going to get another lead, to get cam closer to loft. Jason
Guest Hjaltland Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 Hi Jason, How far have you to run a cable? PS hope your weather is better than ours this mornin.. its chuckin it down.
Ian McKay Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 Installing a Web Cam in Lerwick is like throwing a pig into a lions Den lol You afraid I come and pinch that eggs lol Better ask the BBC for advice they know all about the conditions up there. Poor Web Cam ! ! ! Cheers Kenny Ian
Guest jason Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 our webcam is located 7 metres from computer, but it could do with another 10 metres (to get it nearer the loft) Jason

pigeonscout Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 You can buy cams with zoom may cost a bit more but may work out cheaper than extra cables. A cheap home cctv may be better.

Guest shadow Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 saw one advertised on ideal world last night and it has wire free just a camera and transmiter unit £79
tubbles Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 saw one advertised on ideal world last night and it has wire free just a camera and transmiter unit £79 That one that you saw was also nightvision which would be good for a loft because you could look at youngbirds while on the darkness i suppose. but that camera connects to a TV not pc as far as i know. I could be wrong but if you got that you would need TV card or something to view on pc. I bought a DigitalTV USB adapter but it only has an aeriel input not AV wires or scart.
Guest Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 you cant get night vision camaras unless you are prepared to pay in exess of £1,000/£2,000 pounds i paid over £400 pounds for my cctv thats moving camaras i control i put them through my vidio and tape the loft and garden /drive way they have infra red in them but they still need a light from some where then it magnifies it the secret it puting pir lights at the right points great for the long races & security
Guest slugmonkey Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 I have a system that uses a standard webcam (about 30.00) that you can log on and see what is going on in your loft from anywhere that is only about 15.00 a month you can use any webcam or even a wireless one
