Hi having really bad hawk problems.

Our allotment lofts have had daily strikes for the past 3 days.

Another 2 birds taken today (not mine) 1 yb and 1 old bird.

We have shiny cds up everywhere, have been playing the eagle owl cd.

The eagle owl cd , just seems to make the hawk sit in some bushes about 400 yrds away. Once it stops within about 10 mins its out and about.

I have been keeping my birds in, but certain people up the lofts just keep letting their birds out.

Ha might get a chance to get some points at this rate. (dont knwo how we can train at this rate.

Apart from a 12 bore which is not allowed, any ideas?

A wire cage! With a inner wire cage inside that holds a pigeon or two. Just a hole in the top about 5 inches square or round. A wire trap of 5/6 inches inside the hole  so they can't fly out and as they climb  like parrats the hole is protected by the inner wire. THE WHOLE SHEBUNKEM wil be about 4 foot high and 3-4 square.

The lads already have this set up, but the hawk hasnt been near it.

Thanks

Be careful guys, some person near me was prosecuted for doing something I know none of us would do but you will never get rid of the hawks. If a hawk disappears for some reason another one only takes it's place,I know this because 2 hawks were sadly found dead very locally and within 2 weeks another hawk moved into that territory at which point I gave up flying the show birds out

i think the reason for this is ,these birds are bred in captivity and the cheepest way to raise them is on pigeons ,they are then released out into the wild and have the taste of pigeon meat and that is why they keep attacking our pigeons ,heard it manty times as sonn as one dissapears another one take sover or should i say is realesed these birds have there own territory and come on they dont breed as fast as that do they.

Couple of thoughts:

(1) Traps are illegal, cost you if caught.

(2) Rockets - try one or two at hiding place

(3) falconers - just a thought, who better on hawks than falconers? Get one in to do a cleanout, with a goshawk maybe? Doubt if this could be proved illegal.

never ever leave your birds out by them selves always stay with them as sonn as they land get them in straight away and keep a very large cane or pole with a nail in the end filled down in case you need it the sparrow hawk cant get them in the air only when they ere sitting ducks if there not in the then they should be sitting in the loft build an aviary for the pigeons to get a bath that way they get piece change your system to widowhood roundabout that way pigeons excercise better and trap better the days are gone when you could let themout at will nowadays you have to comprmise and adapt and let the hawks starve

Larry, traps etc are illegal in the UK.

There was a case publicised recently where a fancier was fined just for having a trap in the garden - said it was for crows, but wasn't believed in court, kinda 'you're guilty before you're proved innocent thing' I fear.

But I agree a falconer probably has the answer here, where an allotment of lofts is being targeted, maybe just not been asked the right question yet.  :)

hawks are hungry early morning and late afternoon, and takes food, other times they are just looking to know where to come when hungry, dont let ur birds out at the same times change it around.

I think that is one on the problems at Dave's allotment, Fifer, daily attacks but nobody keeping their birds in. Members' experience is that after a near miss or a kill, hawk comes back same time next day.

Need some sort of agreement between those in the allotment to keep the birds in at very least on the next day.

I lost two birds today for the first time thought, they were out for a good fly till next door found one strewn across her garden when she came in from work. never seen a hawk, and don't have a cat problem

A loft a mile up the road is struck all the time

The bird was left on the grass. The bird was flattened out and its back area stripped,  I think this is something a hawk would do but not sure

Downloaded the eagleowl cd, does it affect the pigeons when played

I am afraid this one falls into the same category as the suggestion that spreading lions "schite" from your local safari park will stop your neighbours cat making a mess in your garden.

It won't help much more the pity but i suppose if your neighbour is one of those who complains about your doos from time to time it might keep them away!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though have lost a couple of "crackers" (as the guys selling doos on this forum would say) in the last fortnight nothing more soul destroying
