Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Are you growing your own this year Fifer ? I have planted two cloves and they are about four inches high, what do you do with yours Fifer once they are up and growing, do you plant them in the ground or do you keep them in pots ? how many bulbs will you get from one plant in a season ?I intend to make full use of them for the birds , will be using plenty in drinkers and have never used it in the baths fore the birds but will give it a try as well, the birds must stink going to the races ;D

Guest Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Was having a wee look round pet shop the other day, insecticides - knew garlic in water was an insecticide - but really taken aback to see it there on the shelf, a garlic insecticide spray for cats & dogs, either spray directly onto coat or onto a comb and comb coat out! Truly a very versatile herb.

Guest Vic Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Joking aside, My way of administering is good, for anybody looking for the right way to do it. ;D ;D ;D I use an old electrical plastic kettle, which didn,t reach its throw away date. The element packed in after 6 months, and they sent me a replacement, which had a shorter life than the first one. So I am the lucky possesser of TWO plastic kettles, that couldn't stand the heat of the kitchen. These are ideal utensils for, the loft in general. They have a filter near the spout, which is easy to clean when it gets messed up. Anyhow my method ii to open a garlic bulb and remove the exterior loose skin. compress the cloves with a pair of pliers and pop em' into one of those bags that come with washing machine tablets these days, about 12 cloves at time. . Anyhow I'm running out of time, so will continue later for any interested parties. Vic. ;)
mickmcgrevy Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 You can bye a garlic crusher, they aren't very expensive, I crush 5 decent sized cloves, or the eqivalent, and add them to a gallon container of cold water. Leave over night and then add about an eggcup full to a 4 pint drinker every day.the amount is not too critical, if its too strong they wont drink it.
Guest Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 crush full bulb into two litres water then add egg cup daily to about i gallon of water and it stinks
mickmcgrevy Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 If you want to grow your own, its dead easy, buy some bulbs and remove the outer cloves. Then just stick them in the garden, plant on the shortest day, and lift on the longest, by using the outer cloves, the bulbs grown are bigger.
mickmcgrevy Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 You got that right Sammy, it does stink,my the wife goes daft when i mix it in the house.
Guest Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 can anyone tell us what was garlic originally used for , i know one
Guest Vic Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Sorry Guys just wasted more precious time and lost the bloody thing. Is there no way of retrievement? Garlic isn't the only thing that stinks, in my mind. > >
