Guest Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 A mate of mine bred in 2004 a cockbird that was blue on one wing and mealy on the other. Looked like two pigeons cut in half and glued back together. Good racer though.

Bred one on the first round too. They are telling me it is a het griz. I think it is a double dose of the pied factor.

jimmy white Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 yes have bred some strange colours through the years ,incedently, the one that had thr red cheq on one side and b,cheq on other side ,,,,had two completely differant eyes? ,,anyway another trait i found with the chocoatedi used to breed, as yb,s they were pure chocolate in colour, andeach year as they moulted the grew more white body and wink feathers, and at 6 yearsold were more white than chocolate,,,strange but true :)
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 I HAVE A GRIZZLE WHICH IS HALF WHITE HALF GRIZZLE HAS ONE BULL EYE AND ONE ORANGE EYE HERE MY WEIRD MEALY I THINK
Guest Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 [HERE MY WEIRD MEALY I THINK] Although not pure Silver (cream / Dun), this colour is commonly called Silver. It is a Blue with Bronze/Red type coloured bars, definately not a Mealy. Its proper termination is "Indigo." This colour is common in the Janssen type pigeons, Bob Pickerings family was built around them. You also get this colour regularly from Chocolate coloured pigeons! Slatey and Schallie colours will also both produce, and come from these Indigo/Silvers. One of the best pigeons I ever had was this colour, and his nestmate was a pure cream silver! I have just got them back in my young bird race team this year! Currently have around half a dozen!
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 ok thanks what is his brother then
Guest Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 ;DVelo . you could be right , a double dose of pieds to produce my white ? andy 8)
Guest Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 [ok thanks what is his brother then] He's a Schallie, slightly Pied. Two crackers they are, the two brothers! I'll bet if you look in there pedigrees you'll find either or both Andy Kozaczek and/or Bob Pickerings bloodlines! Perfection, Schallie Bange, Red Combat Hen, Old White Eyes, The Boss, Cleopatra, Officer, Salient, Frey, Freya, the Beast, etc, .......man theres loads!! If my memory serves me correctly, they go back through the Olympiad Bange of Ponderosa to the Bange 59 of Janssen brothers! The Bange 59 was the grandfather to Albert Tarletons Golden Ball, Maurice Verheye's Le Bon Reproducteur, Valentin Muller's Stamvater, and Louella's Arjan. All these four world famous producers ended up at Louella's. Anyway, they are lovely birds mate, they should do you some good!
Guest Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 A rainbow coloured pigeon anyone ever seen wan then

Guest Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 I think young birds can have some strange colours. I've had one or two that were bronze coloured as young birds, and moulted out coal-black dark cheq cocks. Although not quite the same, I've a youngster with one of my pet hates, a blue bar with one white flight on one wing only; I find these birds can be a bit tricky to recognise out and about, you see w/f side, and say to yourself, that's w/f cock. But seen the other side and often wondered 'what's that? that's not one of mine'.
