An off-shoot from the story, I know, but I was impressed by the technology that can track these two birds over thousands of miles. Don't see these birds humping a transmitter backpack the size of others  I've seen.

 

I hope pigeon racing gets that technology soon, just the techy stuff that might hook a few youngsters into the sport, watch the race onscreen from beginning to end, and maybe bring the gambling industry on-board too.

I think they have used GPS on a few pigeons, Ive seen something on the net about it. And there was a link on this site where Top-Gear raced a pigeon back to its loft, the pigeon had GPS attached to it and a camera so it could be followed over its journey  ;D. So the technology is there, just needs to become cheap enough to use!!

Spot on Steve, has been around for a good while yet ... Love to be able to know where they were on Distance days, and whether I could go up the pub instead lol.

Golly we have enough trouble with ET's and that cost... but 'd go for he GPS Thing.

Can't se why we ain't all GPS marked! Was a time when it was deliberately a few yards out because of 'Terroist attacks... but them days are long gone. In Canada, I'm 999.9999% sure, that they can / do even if of nessacate lib where convienient and send the cordinates back... every one then can log in their Distance from that Liberation.... Larry Lucus or Bill Bennie with no doubt be able to confirm that. But I know it is possible and am sure it has happened.

The problem is with the satellites there arent enough to host this yet it would be expensive for time on one now

Roly in response to your question about using GPS. Post #5.

Here in the UpNorth Combine (Canada) the GPS is used for all measurments and like you say..... if by chance we have to move from a liberation point for whatever reason, the driver keys in the new GPS site and forwards to the combine race secretary and all the adjustments are made by him.

The members will have to wait till the results are published the following week to find out the result of that particular race.

We are advancing..........slowly but surely, not quite that good yet.
