Diamond dave Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 Just wondered if anyone has left baby cock birds to grow in with the widowhood cocks. Do you think it would affect the widowers in any way or wouldn't it do the youngsters any good. I ask cos I am racing my widowers to big youngsters this week before going on to w.hood proper. I have a couple of real "cocky" little babies that are already fighting me out of the box and it seems a shame to take this admirable quality away from them. I know that the cock bird will eventually kick them out but I do have spare boxes which they could take to. Does anyone think that the youngsters will race well if reared in this way? D.D.
Wiley Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 pigeons do have a natural bond to the shed they are bred in and reared in, however think may affect your widowers
Diamond dave Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 Thanks Wiley - do you have any idea how it will affect them?
Wiley Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 i couldnt be to sure but i feel the young birds could be too dependent on the cocks feeding them for long while, and also the cocks without these young may be come spitful towards them, im just having a shot at the dark though dnt be put off it may work, as if possible id like pigeons to be born and raised and raced in the loft i like the idea but just dnt like the idea of the old cocks being there just my opinion

Me, well I believe that they would home quicker....
jimmy white Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 i think it would be ok for a while , then separate them , some cocks race well to a big youngster ,,,but to leave them there would only put the cocks off ,,, an hours excercise eary morning and an hour of an evening,, in between perfect peace , these ybs would not give them that
