REDCHEQHEN Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 He obviously wanted a few hints before he put them in the basket today for the race ;)
sapper756 Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 Ok Wiley m8, I simply open the nest boxes, then after 2 minutes, I let the hens thriogh. Also, you can throw a single spare hen in, prior to basketing the cocks, or put a mirror in the nest box, this makes them think another cock has taken over their box. All worth a try m8, good luck.
Guest Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 ;)sapper , is the spare hen in by herself or ?? with all the other hens theyve been paired to ?? thanks andy
sapper756 Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 ;)sapper , is the spare hen in by herself or ?? with all the other hens theyve been paired to ?? thanks andy Sorry didn,t make it quite clear. It,s a different option, you only have the one spare hen in amongst the cocks, they go crazy and get well pumped up.
Guest Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 ;D cheers pal will add that one to the list and give it a try in a couple a weeks , thanks Sapper ! andy ;D
jimmy white Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 in my opinion, many many differant ways,, first of all if the bird not in tip top condition its a nogo,, every bird is an individual , some fly better to one way,, some another ,, there are differant race factors , i,e long races , short races, , in some cases ive shown the hen on the thursday , and not on the friday,,[ sent them calm ] but if i wanted to win the" first few races" and forget about the rest of the season , i would train well , friday, would show hens leave half hour, lib them one by one from the garden , each one straight in to loft , then basket them again leave again for half hour then take them a 3 to 4 mile toss , single each bird up [they would be used to this b4 first race] there would be a bee line home[no circling] [the necklace system ] as soon as you see the tail of the one youve let off, let another off and so forth, these birds actualy race each other as they see the one in front , in the sky,, let them in to the hens on return,, basket them for club, AFTER putting black cover over basket to settle them again for half hour [5 grains of hemp in box thurs, same friday,, have used this method with 4 cocks won 4 races, then stopped them, [till the next year ] this , then allowed me to start my main w,hood team, treated in an entirely differant way??starting in may
