Guest Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 hi everyone, dos anyone store there feed in a steel galvanised shed? as ive been told by non pigeon folk my feed will get damp. if i buy one. help. :-/ :-/
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 USE A WOODEN SHED AND STORE FEED IN BLACK PLASTIC BINS, BUT I HAVE SEEN GRAIN MERCHANTS WHO HAVE STEEL SHEDS SO DONT THINK IT CAN MAKE FOOD DAMP
Guest Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 Unless it is insulated or painted, exposed steel when cold is bound to cause some condensation: Agree with Tammy, you still need to store grain in a vermin-proof bin, think plastic is best & cheapest.
Guest Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 thanks for the advice guys. there only one thing for it. will have to get the ol man to add onto the loft. thanks again :)

pigeon bird Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 nice picture tammy you must be really proud
me Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 men have been harvesting and storing grain since well before the time of christ and back then they had no plastic and no steel. be careful with plastic it can make grain sweat to, so make sure its in the proverbial cool dry place. In actual fact wood is a great material to keep your grub in but make sure its good solid natural timber AND NOT TREATED.
Guest Vic Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 So without teatment? How do you protect one grub from the other? ;D ;D ;D
jordanp31 Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 plastic bin with loads of holes in the top for air to flow. They arnt big enough for the mice to get. Never had any probs
Guest Vic Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 A reasonable sized wheelie bin, should hold 4 to 5 20-25k bags of openned corn, all vertically (standingb up) What more can a council tax payer desire? Vic.

Guest slugmonkey Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 I have been using galvanized cans for years
Guest Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 If you use plastic bins keep the food in the paper bag then the dies and colouring in the plastic wont leatch into the food
