stevebelbin Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Anyone got any little tricks for natural pigeons, mine are sitting approx. 5-7 days now, this week they are going 90miles and next week approx. 300 odd miles. I will be sending cocks only and was thinking of taking there hens off them tonight and making them sit the eggs tonight and till basketing tmrw. Would this work and make them kean or would it just whind them up??!!
Wiley Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 yes would work something simiular to what i used to do when sending pigeons sitting taking there mate away the day before basketing, shame you you couldnt have switched one of there eggs with a chicken egg, but id say its too late for that now
stevebelbin Posted May 17, 2007 Author Report Posted May 17, 2007 Thats a funny one, chicken egg lol!! Any further info for future reference etc :-/
Roland Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Would have the them ALL Both races, and warm the Pot eggs up for when they came home. Next week though IS 'Hens' day! 300 miles, a wing open this week, a couple of chucks, and I'd be pooling them!
peterpau Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Find chicken eggs too big but bantam eggs are a different story alternatively an extra egg per day up to 5 or 6 eggs. I like me hens on eggs or small babbies but cocks on bigger babbies.
Roland Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Me likewise Peter, Bigger babbies and driving her back to the nest me...

Next week though IS 'Hens' day! 300 miles, a wing open this week, a couple of chucks, and I'd be pooling them! Would love to have hens going, but havent commited enough time to them really, they havent been raced since they were babies and they are mainly 2year old, so feel to jump them into 86miles then to 300miles would be asking a bit much. But I suppose there better off down the road than sat about in the loft, so I may try two hens this week and give a few chucks next week and then send them to Lille, or maybe stick to my plan of giving them a few inland races this year and send them channel racing next year, as theres two hens that are bred from proven channel pigeons. Its mainly cocks I was concerned about this week and next as they have all been over the water b4.

Meant to let you know, one of those YBs has gone AWOL, this week, im sure he's about as he was well settled and I think he's been spooked by the hawk, just thought Id let u know as me being me, ive not sent the transfer off yet. Will do it this week :B
peterpau Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Sorry you're one of me babbies short. We did get 1st 2nd 3rd in the local club from BICC Falaise this weekend 108th BICC. Two hens and a cock all on 3 day eggs. Would have to say think you should get them hens out. Had a south rd cock last year. Went Taunton 122 miles Wincanton then Newton Abbot 162 miles turned him to Perth 297 miles. 13th sec NRCC. Two or three more races mate and I bet them hens will surprise you. They will be fresh and keen and not seen all the bad weather your cocks have had to endure.

The YB was back last night when I got home from work, well flown out, but he will be a better bird for it I think ;D. I will put two hens on tonight to see how they do, its a tail wind so hopefully they will have an easy fly home. They are both as kean as hell on their eggs, so it should be enough incentive to get home. And I took the hens away from two fancied cocks to see if that gees them up. Cheers all ;D
barlbylofts Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 i race widowhood inland but when i get to the channal i let them stay together and race natural i find my cocks race chanal better that way. ansew to your question is i find them racing home faster nearer to hatching date so if you can work it right then that the best way not always aesy i know lol , mark barlbylofts
stevebelbin Posted May 18, 2007 Author Report Posted May 18, 2007 Cheers Mark, I think ive got the dates right to have the cocks driving for our 400miles race in a few weeks . Just realised that this weekend is 120miles not the 90 odd I thought it was :B lol, I will have to get a distance sheet pinned up in the loft lol
Wiley Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 cocks driving for a 400 mile race :-/ personally i wouldnt do it but its upto the individual been proven many times wrong before
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 i take the cock away from the hen thenight or morning before basketing and dont let him see her till he comes back from the race and he has been on the result every week club and the odd fed
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 try putting a 10 day old youngster under your cock which you are racing see if that makes him determind
