lets all chill a bit lads its early in the season and their is nothing more soul destroying than keeping a bird all winter and then losing it in the firest or second race.

 

Golden rule (or "text" as they used to say when I was at the sunday school) be very careful if birds are liberated in an east wind be especially careful with yearlings at the start of the season.THEY DON'T LIKE EAST WINDS!

We went up along with glasgow and iam hearing that their are some birds missing in the west yet we are nearly all home we will never know the ans. to that but aggree with alf birds dont like the east wind (we dont like the east wind!!!!!)

dont know how many clubs, but in their feds yearling race from newark andy [forum member]   coped nearly £6000  he was , second and third , the winner got nearly £2000 , i think there was £9000 in the race ,, they also run the xmas race  , about £8000 in it , also many nat winners in it ,,  w, kinnear and son of auld reekie fame [and many others too ,, so it really is a tough fed ,,,,,big money fed ;D ;D ;D,,, i note already there are folks downing celtics  past two results ,, hes a novice, never won a race b4 ,, won the last two weeks , really some going,,,,,its terrible to think [which is true] ,,,be last every week and your everyones freind ,, but win every week ,, then youll find your true freinds

there was a point raised a while back jakjak about members clocking in a lot of birds and as to whether as you have it in your own words   "let members win a prize" who would really be happy knowing somebody has let them win, think it was bruno who said he would not be happy if somebody let him win, knowing full well more birds wre timed in before him or not timed in as the case so that he would get a prize, me personally i would not care how many birds somebody times in because you just have to try harder to beat them, if you have one good bird and they send a hundred average birds , the one good bird should win

 

Quite happy with my club's current  set-up, but unless you are in the 1st x 4, I think it is now very difficult to rate results (non-ticket positions) ...

 

Comparing results between clubs & feds is quite difficult when one Org allows all birds to be timed, while another puts on a limit. I was 30th this week ... you may say that this is a true result, but you would be wrong, because our club only allows fanciers their 1st x 5 birds on the club result. Martin Conlin had 5 in front of me, so how many more did he have in front of me [and in front of the others placed 22nd onwards] and what was my bird's true position in the club race?

 

If its a choice between me being 15th or 30th, then 30th it is, because a balance has to be struck somewhere and 30th is nearer my true position in the race than 15th.

yes ,quite agree with me, ,,,,,,the old saying,, when the wind is in the east,,its neither good to man nor beast,

the last few  mornings here , have been cold misty , till the sun came out , then mist crept  in again off the coast evening time,covering the pentland hills, dangerous weather for pigeons,,,,,,,one picked up this morning , su, 06. a. 1872,, locked in a box, fed and watered ,, will lib ftom st johns hospital in livingstone tomorrow if the weathers ok [or i hear any differant ] hope the owner gets it back.

We were 1st & 4th 10 members sent 148 birds to Cheltenham, its a dream really as we have now won 4 out of 4 and topped the fed twice to boot.

we needs them members back

Some librations up today, how did you do today?

Martin Conlin won our club [19/442] from Otterburn [2], 82 miles. Liberated 12:30 in a light SW wind, winner timed @ 2:17 vel 1350.

 

Didn't get my first bird till 2.31 vel 1190, 3rd-last in club [35th]. Got 7 out of 9 in 30 mins. 2 still to come ... both at same racepoint last week???

 

Lots of birds going over here fast & low from 2pm time heading further West, we don't know which Fed tho.
