I'm in Stonehaven, about 50 miles south. There was mention they were coming back to Stonehaven, Overcast at the moment but brighter since 12:00. Only a small patch of blue that lasted about 30 minutes. Still low cloud on the hills to the west. Visibility 3+ miles. N/NE breeze.

My Point was to try and ascertain whether or not the birds would get a decent start, as in my opinion 1pm liberation for a race of over 350 miles potentially may not give the bird a fair chance of making it home before dark.

As we stand there were only 2 -3 birds home in the fed last night.

At 11.35 today I still have nothing back, the wait continues.

Yep know where your coming from .... But the conditions etc. are always relayed to everyone when informed  of the Liberation. They had on paper plenty of time... just meet from time to time unforseen, and better still Unknown circumstance(s).

That is why we have bad races, even smashes, because ofUnforseen and unknown elements that cloud the UNKNOWN reason and how they navigate their way home.

This is when Race Controllers' are unmercifully and unjustly slanted and hasled. Obviously at the time of Liberation MOST controllers get it right, and they ALWAYS have their, and the members pigeons interests at heart. Sorry sorry Paul, but sh** happens, and sometimes hits the fans. Remember when only 6 got back totally from many 000's when a controller pleased the T.V company's and we and the purpose were shot in the foot!

Hi Paul, firstly I'd like to say I have every sympathy with you.  As a fellow north road racer it seems this season has been one of the very worst in history.  Our Fed also had a bad race from Fraserburgh in May and again from Thurso last week.  Our team alone is halved with some fanciers calling it a day for the old bird season.

I appreciate Roland's comments although think they have come across very harsh.  I myself logged on to the forum last weekend to try to ascertain why we had suffered a bad race from Thurso.  The comments and support I received were most welcomed.  We all know that whilst many fanciers say 'you could race a paper bag on the north road' the elements and obstacles that our birds face are far more challenging than any south road birds encounter.  If it's any help the weather in North Yorkshire yesterday was warm although it was late in the day before the blue cloud broke through preventing the chance of starting to train the young birds.  I have friends up at Newcastle where I believe it was misty most of the day.  I've found using the Met Office weather website very useful as it allows you to get the nearest weather observations meaning you can check visibility and wind speeds.

I do wholeheartedly hope you get some back today.  Which organisation were you racing with as it seems strange when the NRCC held over?

Hi all

Got my first at 1pm, second at 3.30pm and one at 3.50 pm from all different directions, and probably finished for the season.

Fully appreciate Rolands comments however still strange we released at 1pm when other organisatuions held over at 12.00 noon. Have also had some reports from people that said not fit to liberate. My initial point was simply to ascertain whether they had a chance on the day, not to start a convoyer witchunt.

As Roland also added we have all got the tea shirt, imagine no bad races what would we do with all our surplus stock.

No this is from Yesaterdays Lib.

Still waiting on NRCC i think it will be a little longer than we first thought.

Here there is now low cloud, fairly dull and if anything a light east wind.

Think your Londaon pals are going to be looking at 8 to 9 hours.

Will pm you when NRCC turn up

Just a comment, Have heard the sayings too that the North is easier. I fly both, and have found the South far far easier and more consistantly so than the North Rd.

I believe it all started as a Jest to entice the North Roaders to fly the South Rd, which has had some success.

As for being harsh, I would say that also has meit, possibly 'Blunt' I would feel in hindsight a beter discription.

   But it is what makes  our hobby so ardently participated in, the highs and the lows... But often feel that we look for conmissieration at the wrong point when venting our frustrastions. And all the 'Hind thoughts and 'If Only;

well folks the north is the hardest route to fly ....

you tend not to need to sort your birds out after season, cos generally what you have got left is the best in ya loft, that is not to say you can fly a gudin, but the ones that came have got heart.....

well i now fly on the south and have got to revert to race records to see

who when and what came where each week ,only bloody thing is they are dropping thick n fast its hard to keep track ,
