frank-123 Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Hi all, The 'K' Index factor is brewing up again after a quiet spell. SIDC issued the following warning today: QUOTE PRESTO FROM SIDC - RWC BELGIUM Mon Jul 9 2007, 1143 UT Solar activity is expected to reach eruptive levels with chances of C-class flaring activity from NOAA AR 0963. Geomagnetic activity is expected to reach active condition levels during the next 48 hours, due to a fast solar wind stream from a coronal hole. Active conditions are expected late on July 10. UNQUOTE NOAA AR 0963 is a new Flare, started up last Saturday on the Sun's Eastern face, and is coming round this way ! If that "fast solar wind stream" is still blasting out on Thursday (and I will let you know) then you can expect a poor race on Saturday 14th July. If it drops off I'll also tell you that too. Cheers, _________________ bilco warning from pigeon chat

Tony C Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 The last time Bilco warned us of this 'K' Index factor there were smashes up and down the country.
Guest Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 last sat was when i got wiped out with my y/birds bart and ive had that chart web site for over two years but it changed over night last frid the chart shows the change comming for the weekend
DOMINIQUE Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 were do you find all this stuff bart yi got a periscope sticking out ya roof ,interesting stuff if you know wit its about and how to get it ;D ;D You can get all of this information yourself if you go to these links and sign up , only takes a minute to do and you will get an e-mail sent every day giving you all the data you need to see how things will be happening with the weather details, shows if the atmospheric conditions are changing and if there will be magnetic storms that can affect weather conditions, also gives all the details about solar flares , you maybe find this interesting Sammy if you pay a visit to the links, you do not have to sign up , but some things are even just worth a look . http://www.sidc.be/products/meu http://www.sidc.be/products/khar

Guest Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 ;D thank you ...... saturday looks OK at present ? andy
Wiley Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 don't think so andy! quoted from bilco of chat "This morning's (at 05.00) LASCO MPEG showed that NOAA AR 0963 was brewing well, and a fast solar wind was coming off the Eastern+ limb of the solar disc. There seems also to be another infant flare not far (2 days) behind 0963, and that too looks spiteful. Based on these photos I'd suggest leaving YBs in the loft this weekend. If it all subsides then OK, go right ahead and chuck a few bricks, I won't mind. But to me it says "No" - sorry I can't be more precise at this moment. Cheers,"
Guest Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 http://www.pigeonnavigation.com/ from bilco the man in the know ;D looked at this link from Bart , and like i said (unless i missed something?) looks OK ?? , c;icked on the other links posted (Domonique) ?? the one u r quoting from i think ........ might just as well be written in mandarin ?? couldnt make head nor tail of it ...... sorry ???? andy
Wiley Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 another update from bilco Solar activity is expected to remain quiet for the next 48 hours. The flaring activity from NOAA AR 0963 decreased during the past 24 hours, and the global soft Xray flux dropped significantly. Its magnetic type is now beta, but there is still a small chance of C-class flaring activity. Geomagnetic activity is expected to be mostly quiet during the next 48 hours, With possible isolated unsettled conditions as the Earth is still within a high-speed solar wind stream emanating from a recurrent coronal hole. Current readings of the solar wind speed measured by the ACE spacecraft are about 550 km/s.
tyson Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 Hi bart nice to see someone else is studying this I myself have been studying this for the last 3yrs and it does affect pigeons navigation more so young pigeons as when we have had a poor race with erratic returns I have checked the sun index chart and if it showing above 5kp this is usually when you will get erratic retuns not just when racing but olso when training but when I speak to other fanciers all I get told is your blethering a lode of p!!ss but I believe that it does have an effect on there ability to home especially if the earth is being hit by a geomagnetic storm
Guest Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 ;)was more interested in saturdays influence ...... last old bird race Portsmouth 180 miles ( new site ,was 2b st nazare) . dont intend another toss for ybs until sunday ........ any posotive comments welcomed .. thanks in advance . andy
tyson Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 next 48hrs looks okay regarding sun index weather in places could be a bit iffy
