pigeonpete Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 Hi all , i know my problem i think but would like some advise please, my ybs are different ages and are flying well 40 mins plus but wont go off? they range from jan bred to april, so any advise would be appreicated, i am a little concerned as racing only 6 weeks off!! thanks in advance
jimmy white Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 i would say its just the differant ages,, let them out the same time everyday , theyll soon range when their ready, providing their not too hungry
pigeonpete Posted June 11, 2006 Author Report Posted June 11, 2006 Thanks jimmy, just hope they go soon, will i lose them all if they havent been ranging if i start training them at a short distance?
Guest jason Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Thanks jimmy, just hope they go soon, will i lose them all if they havent been ranging if i start training them at a short distance? hope not, :-/ I'm having the same trouble, young birds not ranging but I'm going to start training in another 2 weeks (short chucks) so I'll wait and see.! :-/
jimmy white Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 IF YOUVE STILL 6 WEEKS TO THE FIRST YB RACE, THERES STILL TIME FOR THEM TO RANGE BUT IF THEIR FLYING 40 MINS , THEIR DOING NOT BAD IF I WERE YOU I WOULD WAIT ANOTHER COUPLE OF WEEKS, THEN WHEN YOU START , TRAIN THEM EVERY DAY IF POSS, GOOD LUCK
Guest Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 check the colour of the skin on their breasts Jason, if it's blue , pm me for detox details as your birds are probably protein poisoned and this makes them very reluctant to fly very long.
Guest jason Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 hi linda, I read what you put early on this morning, all skin colour is fine (nice pink) anyway took them 2 miles and got every one back. ;D its raining now so I'll give them another at 2 miles tommorow. thanks jason
pigeonpete Posted June 12, 2006 Author Report Posted June 12, 2006 Hi linda, could you please explain more about protein poisoning please? my ybs are being fed on versale laga young bird extra!!! could that be my problem?? thanks in advance x :K)
schouwman71 Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Protien just thickens their blood up,they wont be poisened at all,if they wont range just add some good quality barley to their feed then watch them go for 2 hrs a time, some will see this system and pull it down but if you do this you will be up on the result sheet aswell.ive used this for years and so have all the top pigeon men aswell and you will see how well they will look being fed this way.Good luck with y/b
Guest Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 The information given to me regarding protein poisoning was from the Late Dr. Brad Batte of Ontario who has a couple of Doctorates in animal nutrition and the founder of Heritage Acres Feed.
pigeonpete Posted June 15, 2006 Author Report Posted June 15, 2006 Ybs flew for an hour today got up high!! but no sign of going off??? what is wron g with them? getting worried now :-/
schouwman71 Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 try that barley bud,if that does not work within a week, treat them for respitory with tylan or any good medication for respitory.
jimmy white Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 theres a good photo of birds skin colour on jack barkels post, the best pictures ive seen,,,,,,but i would tend to give them some barley to begin with, and lessen it as the races got further, i maybe wouldnt jump the gun at the respiratory bit, as they are flying an hour, and in this warm weather thats pretty good [ but i would make sure they werent over crowded in the loft] anyway hope all goes well for you
pigeonpete Posted June 16, 2006 Author Report Posted June 16, 2006 Cheers for that folks will let you know how they get on
Guest Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 MY YOUNGSTERS ARE ONLY JUST STARTING TO BATCH LOL
peterpau Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 Can't help but think, birds that fly well must be healthy. I wonder if you could split the different age groups. I only breed one round, and they are all the same age. So they run well. However we did breed a couple of rounds, about five years ago. Kept in different sections they ran well too, but they woudn't till we split 'em
pigeonpete Posted June 18, 2006 Author Report Posted June 18, 2006 thanks for that peter, havent got the sapce to split them but thanks anyway!!! lost sight of them for 5 mins today so there getting there with the extra barley me thinks thanks
peterpau Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 Hope the barley works but YOUNG birds want to roam sexualy mature cocks might just have different ideas. Can't help but think, I wouldn't want to chase all over town, with a gorgeous young hen at home. Tiz only an idea
T_T Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 I would only say one thing with babies, be very careful not to train before youv'e seen them roaming/ranging. I think that's asking for trouble. We tend to get too impatient with youngsters and because Joe Bloggs down the road has got his going from 20mls and ours arn't going at all, we try to play catch-up. Fatal.!! They will go when their ready and dissapear for an hour or more. I tried the catch-up syndrome last year and lost half my team from the first toss of less than five miles.
peterpau Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 Got to agree T_T if they don't roam forget 'em
pigeonpete Posted June 25, 2006 Author Report Posted June 25, 2006 Took most of ybs training this morning 5 miles with 4 obs with them :-/ got home 4 obs were there!! thought oh dear then 10 mins later they all came together!! ;D ;D ;D ;D i was a very happy bunny!!! thanks for every ones help the barley worked a treat!!!
