DOVEScot Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 Why do moderators remove posts when they are hijacked and go off the subject, the only one that seems to deal with it correctly is Bruno. He deletes the crap and leaves the valid points running. I suggested before that if a post or thread is removed then there should be a reason posted. Bruno might not be Mr Popular but at least he is consistant Or are the rules set in stone by the webmaster and his so called "moderators"
DOVEScot Posted July 27, 2007 Author Report Posted July 27, 2007 Think you might find the answers to that under the Code of Conduct I agree but the code is that inconsistantly used it a farce at times, even when you try to be fair rose.
jimmy white Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 in the last year some of the posts have been in particularly bad taste , the webmaster is now trying a new system which will posted shortly,, sometimes a good thread can be ruined by the minority , this minority ,in future will be dealt with quite severely and the post be put back on again [after it has been "sanitized"] as with chrissies post a short time ago, perfectly good post ,,,ruined by the" minority"
DOVEScot Posted July 27, 2007 Author Report Posted July 27, 2007 First place to start is with the moderators being consistant, you have the means to moderate, but be fair and don't dictate to suit your personal views
jimmy white Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 no one has any need to worry about posting unless the webmaster finds them undesirable or uncouth or in anyway it is spoiling it for others ,, the mods try their best to be as fair as they can,, threads are not" deleted" they are put on the private mods thread for the webmaster to see , if he feels the mods are wrong ,he will soon tell us and the postings go back up , were only the linesmen and ladiies :)but ultimately the boss" the weby " who, if it werent for him , there would be no forum ,,,so really it would be ideal if members would co-operate and continue to make this the best forum on line
symbro Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 but seriously... cant the moderators correct spelling and grammer? i mean gosh... people here dont type good. (((hehe did ya see it? i bet less than half know what i am talking about)))

Guest Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Yes, see it Symbro but I think that correcting grammar and spelling mistakes wouldn't be welcomed, be a bit of a put-down and maybe a bit elitist. Remember that English may not be the person's 1st langauge too so maybe a spell-checker program from Richard would help? All of us are here to join in and share pigeon-related topics. Plain language and plain talk is all that is needed.
symbro Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 hey bruno... long time no see. (on my side, been out of the loop) i was only in jest. well mostly in jest... i can stand when people say good instead of well, when needed. we do things well, and that is good.

Think you meant to say " I can't stand" instead of " I can stand "
Guest Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Hi Symbro, yep you've been away a long time. There's a few of our members from US not looked in for a while. Thought you had deserted us. Maybe a language thing? ;D ;D
symbro Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 errr... yep... i meant "cant" lol 12am here... thats my excuse! bruno, there is a lot of great information on this website. actually the best forum i have seen for pigeon racing.
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Think you have to remember as well that some posts dont get deleted perhaps when they should because us moderators cant be here all the time most of us do have a life besides being on here and there are the occasions when no one is here to do it wouldnt think that ros you are on here everytime I am and am on alot ;D
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Yeah often because i forget to log out ;D oic ;D
Roland Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Personally I believe that the Modulators (moderators lol) do a well job good, ah good alls well that ends good I supose lol.

Also moderators get their tuppence in with the hijacking and banter, the problem is where do you draw a line with the banter/hijacking A lot would agree when it suits, the same as complaints, the banters fine when some members are dishing it out, but not long in complaining when it flips in their direction Also posts get moved after they have run for a while, instead of being when it suits, maybe moderators should move posts when they read them, not reply or get involved and move when it suits them or they can't answer them
Guest Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 I think you'll find banter is a 'show-stopper' when its in the wrong place. I've seen it a number of times on 'Can you help' threads when the person posting for help gets left in limbo while a number of others post up 'funnies' for each other, and people who can help just don't post their info. As soon as the banter is deleted, people do start posting information in reply to the original question. So it definitely puts people off. I personally have no time for banter in a serious thread, the most recent was the flooding in England and Wales which for everyone involved is far from funny, yet someone put up a 'funny' even on that. The member actually had birds drowned in his lofts - try as I might, can't see anything funny in that.

Me, I love the banter no holds barred as far I am concerned, weaned on the tattie feilds and grew up in the mines. but unless you rule it out on the main board then you'll never win. It is a shame when someone starts a serious post and before you know it, it becomes a farce. We are all guilty of banter on the main board, even you Bruno, but its the ripple effect next thing you know someone is getting drowned and crying for help ;D
DOVEScot Posted July 28, 2007 Author Report Posted July 28, 2007 Thats very true bruno some who put helpful information have stopped bothering because they have got fed up with serious posts being turned into senseless banter nothing wrong with anyone having a laugh and a bit of fun but there is a time and a place for everything Perhaps we need a funny forum started up ;D Aye, and as soon as the banter starts move the thread not the post
Guest Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Perhaps we need a funny forum started up ;D Thought we had one here - oops, sorry, thought that said funny farm. ;D
Guest Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Aye, and as soon as the banter starts move the thread not the post We are discussing that one just now. It is very time consuming to remove individual posts. Could spend all day doing it, so when faced with a few in a thread, its quicker to take the thread out. Hopefully that will change because it isn't fair on 'fair play' posts.

And their ego's are too often so wrapped up within their own self importance to notice, mores the pity! Suppose they become oblivious when they stroke each others ego's!
DOVEScot Posted July 28, 2007 Author Report Posted July 28, 2007 Not sure what you mean by that if you move say a serious thread that should be on the general forum to the members forum because of what has been put on it that would mean its not where it was originally intended to be cant see it would be fair on the original poster to have his thread moved just because what other people have turned it into surely it is there posts that should be removed Ok, I said it the wrong way round keep the thread and move the post that is out of context
