ANY IDEAS TO ADD IF I GET A GOOD RESPONSE I WILL PUT IT IN THE BHW THANKS YOU WERENAE THINKING HARD ENOUGH THEN, THATS WHY THE SPORT IS IN DECLINE BECAUSE FOLK ARE GETTING OLDER AND THERE ARE NO NEW YOUNG FOLK WANTING IN, ITS YOUNGER FOLK THAT ARE NEEDED NOT OLDER ONES WHO WILLL MAYBE SNUFF IT BEFORE THEY GET TO A RACE ;D STAND IN THE CORNER BEN WITH YOUR DUNCES CAP ON
dooman88 Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 WHY EXCLUDE THE KIDS ? WHY CANT EXISTING MEMBERS OF CLUBS SET UP A SMALL LOFT . AND EACH MEMBER GIVES A PAIR OF BIRDS THUS SAVING THE KIDS MONEY . THEN MAYBE A RETIRED PERSON CAN ALSO SHARE THE LOFT TO INTRODUCE THE KIDS ON HOW TO PROPERLY LOOK AFTER THE BIRDS . THE KIDS WHO ONLY TAKE TO THE SPORT WILL STAY ANYWAY . THEN THERE WOULD BE PARTNERSHIPS FORMED FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO COME . YOUR CLUB NUMBERS MIGHT SWELL WHO KNOWS!!
Guest Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 u only have to ask ur kids wot they want for xmas?...playstation 3 please ..thats usually the reply. kids of today dont want the same as past generations have!..they dont want to be cleaning sh!t up when they can be sat in a bedroom or out with their m8s. we have to face it that the sport gets more expensive and theres less input into the sport then there was 20yrs a go. wot kids of today can afford the flying? nevermind the setting up ? years a go they could easily but now theres no chance ...mainly because parent wont spend out for a 2 min thing that the kid will be into summut else soon...sport deffo on the decline.....paul

They will stay until they discover girls and drink then drift away with very few returning they do not want the 365 days a year commitment small clubs of 8 or less members should amalgamate with bigger clubs in the area and stop the big fish in the little pond syndrome
Guest Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Think Ben is right about getting more retired people interested, they have the money to fund grandchildren, but Tammy is right too, need steady stream of younger folk coming in, and that's not happening. Think one loft races are an ideal introduction, and most young people can be found at school, so fanciers donating birds to school syndicates in one loft races might be a good investment, arms-length introduction to pigeons and pigeon racing plus the learning aspects of birds, nutrition, training, velocity calculation, and of course inter-school competition and helping school funds.
Roland Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Not bad idea really oh Red one.... many countries have seen an influx of member via doing just that! And the Grandchildren - family may get the bug. THAT is what it is all about, sowing a seed however possible. Most of us caught the bug young, and then after marriage and a couple of kids later returned. Two reasons why they don't return is ‘small back gardens’ and COSTS. And a good pointer as to cost that tips the balance is the 'Unfair Playing Fields’. Yes everyone accepts that one can't have as such ... but the clichés that have the advantage seem to be he very same ones that are on committees blocking any and every improvement that would have helped and never gave any lee - way when they could have helped. This in turn shows only too well the selfish and yes short sightedness of too many. Again we will see many leave through this ET. Will the pro brigade care!! Not a jot, but offer lame crutches as excuses. If they now said 'OK whether there needs to be a 12 second handicap or not on the first bird, and 3 seconds every one after, we will allow this. After all the ET clockers won't lose oat, and many may stay. Further as the pro brigade is not only fair minded they want to be seen as be fair! Then I'll have an ET clock with a clear conscious and the club would all be happy. But that will never happen. In 10 years, out side of me, I have only ever seen one other - on here too - that was willing to accept a handicap to help even it up, and put to rest any hiccups and with a view of keeping flyers! But it seems as always it will be 'Stuff you! I want an ET at any cost, and if that means fewer flyers, then that will mean I may win a bit more, and if it also means through others leaving I pay more, so be it'. And as for demeaning the credibility of the 'Prize / Win' so what! A win is a win! Should put - a long time ago - our own house in order and look after the flyers we have (Had) and then look towards getting new members. After all just what can one use in regards the actual 'Races' to encourage new members joining! Nowt! But a self lot of twisters who line their own pockets and feed their own interests. the youngster in that case are more willing to spend £70 or more throwing insults at a Referee, than waste time and money to no avail.

Guest Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 SO WHATS SAGA? Don't think it stands for anything now, Ben. Back in another world when they got reduced rates on railway fares it used to stand for Send A Granny Away. :B It is a mag aimed at over 50's. http://www.saga.co.uk/magazine/
Guest Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 SO WHATS SAGA? It's just a magazine for over 55's,don't know where you get it from but it seems to be a big company, even do there own car insurance!!.It's aimed at the young at heart which is why I thought they might be more likely to try a new hobby, they must have a web site.
Guest shadow Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 most pensioners have less disposable income than you think when I got my pension my income dropped £70 per week that is one of the reasons my birds had to go.
