sapper756 Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Just went into the loft this morning to find one of my 2 hens I was contenplating sending to the SNFC race this weekend, laid last night, which means she will lay her 2nd egg Wednesday and basketed Thursday for a Saturday race. My question is, is this too soon after recently laying, or should it act as an incentive? :-/

Mark Bulled Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 I was always taught not before 4 Meaning never send Hens until they have sat 4 days. However this time of year when the egg flow is high I would get her out for a fly thursday. If she looks fine then I would send her. Good Luck
Guest Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Been trying to get to bottom of this for a while, have asked on other threads about it; :-/ Think 4 days is about right, [2nd egg on Monday for Friday basket]. Did 2nd egg on Thursday thing this year, put 2yo hen away Friday for 83 miles on Saturday and she slept out.
Mark Bulled Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Obviously regardless of the strain of laying and being driven, the form wont come back again properly until she's been sitting at least 4 days. If you do send them too soon they sometimes dont want to go back on their eggs anyway, suggesting that they werent in the right "frame of mind" when sent?

Send her, no messing shes got 2 days rest and no exercise cos shes in a basket. Question is how much flying time has she had to be competitive?
