REDCHEQHEN Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 Both together - they are very different 8)
Back garden fancier Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 strange, my bules aren't blue and my reds aren't red!!
klinkley Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 there has been confusion over this before, can somebody actually post a photo of a chocolate and a yellow together so we can actually see them together, I have a bird which i always classed as, and bought as a chocolate, and when i put the photo on here before some said it was a yellow and not a chocolate, here is the photo again. I can't see what all the confusion is all about. The "chocolate" recessive red is clearly quite different from the yellow. The chequered yellows are ash yellow chequer and the the picture of the group of yellows in the pen are recessive yellow, that simple. Look at the link I posted earlier, it explains all.

REDCHEQHEN Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 Your're right, it's the female superior brain ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Aye, but Tammy_1 has a feminine side - don't you lovey :K) :K) ;D ;D ;D ;D
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 Your're right, it's the female superior brain ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D that's nearly correct, you are that intellectually challenged that you believe yourself to be superior , the only chance you have of being superior is if you join a convent for 20 years and become a mother superior ;D ;D
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 Aye, but Tammy_1 has a feminine side - don't you lovey :K) :K) ;D ;D ;D ;D aye if u say so ;D ;D

THE FIFER Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 this argument is somewhere on site. i posted a photo of a yellow but there was some dispute as to whet yellow is, its there somewhere.
Guest Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 heres my yellows Just to confuse things even more, these are not a million miles from creams.
Guest Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 Just to confuse things even more, these are not a million miles from creams. as in custard creams
Guest beautyhomer Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 Yellow is used to describe a variety of different genetic combinations so this is where the confusion about what a yellow is comes from. However all these different combinations must have red genes and dilute genes. Self Yellow is a dilute recessive red (chocolate) When ash red is used we have to take pattern genes into account aswell Yellow Checker is a dilute ash red checker Yellow Bar (cream) is a dilute ash red bar(mealy) Other colour modifying genes can also be added so for example we can get yellow grizzles and yellow pieds

Are these both reds?
Guest beautyhomer Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 Yes both are ash red checks. The first one is the equivelent of of a dark check in blue and the second one is the equivelent of a blue check.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 but they're still red - who thought they were yellow in the first place? Are these both reds? funny how everybody has different ideas of colours
Guest Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 funny how everybody has different ideas of colours look like reds to me 8) nice pair susan
klinkley Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 funny how everybody has different ideas of colours The science of colour genetics is a mind boggling subject. I think to avoid even more confusion, just simply remember that dilue red is yellow, so dilute ash red chequer is ash yellow chequer, dilute recessive red (chocolate) is recessive yellow. dilute ash red bar (mealy) is cream. How it actually gets there is up to you whether you wish to learn about it. I've attached a photo of one of my young indigo chequer hen and a dilute indigo chequer hen. She looks yellow, but she isn't.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 I must be colour blind here because I can't see anything that resembles anything yellow or even close to it in your two birds

klinkley Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 I must be colour blind here because I can't see anything that resembles anything yellow or even close to it in your two birds I didn't say the two birds! The dilute indgo chequer (second pic) has quite often been mistaken for a yellow, but she isn't.
