paddymac Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 Out of interest I would like to know how members of the forum feel they have done during the YB season. I personally use Y.B. races as an education and just hope for returns. I started the y.b. season with 22 ybs and I am left with 16. . Returns this year with the NIPA are absolutely terrible and most fanciers closed up shop after the first few races so as to have a few birds to race next season. Over here in Ireland, especially in ther n/west the returns are terrible. :-/
Beanz Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 Paddymac, we are same as you use young bird racing for experience mainly, we don't do dark so birds are too far in moult to go to last few races, we started training 25 but after a couple of bad races we are down to 13 and we know 1 is dead. Keep saying we will have a real go with the youngsters but when time comes round it just seems too much trouble.
frank-123 Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 my yb's season was not good 5 or 10 mins behind but the returns were good but i could not get near the winner's i had one hen i timed three weeks in a row so got some pool money from her going to fix my lofts to get more ventalation into them hope this might help next season
thunderboult Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 our yb season(if you can call 5 races a season) went ok we fly em natural ,won first 3 races then the darky's took over, if only the yb season started in may .returns were ok apart from 1 race when we lost 14(that was due to the weather), started the season with 39 ended with 20
Guest Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Apart from one race when I dropped 2 out of 8, I was pretty pleased with my returns. Performances were terrible and never got higher than 8th club [157 miles] but next and last race [185 miles] was particularly bad, last by a big margin timing my non-fancied pigeon, a hen flying to the perch, and the two fancied ones, a mated pair, had a night-out. > I'd 7 left [reduced now to 6] from the original 15 which were to be raced out, and most have been, 4/5 races to 157 or 185 miles. But these 6 individuals have all been within the first 4 pigeons back to the loft on at least 3/4 occasions, and have also been trained twice per week July - September to 20 miles , so I am quite confident they will make good yearlings. I've another 7 trained only, continuing training, and hope to compare performances between these teams next year.
schyphos Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 For me the y.b season so far has been very good.I have had 8 races and won 7.The guy who won the other had to top the Fed to do so.I have also taken Fed cards with every bird i have clocked this year, about 25 Fed cards, including first Fed.As for returns, first race sent all 52 and ater 8 races still have 46 left i know of 3 dead ones reported. As this is only my second season and my first with these new pigeons i consider that i am having an excellent season.
swilcox Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 I think my young birds have flown so well as anyones in the UK this year, im very proud and looking forward to the future!!!! Stuart
sapper756 Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 I am no different from anyone else, in that I have suffered losses, however overall I have had a good young bird season, scoring in club, federation and awaiting confirmation of a possition in the SNFC. So I am pleased with my youngsters, however will be looking to improve next year. Good luck to all fanciers for next season
