doos r us Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 With the prevailing West Winds just look at the trees and the way they are permantly bent over. Its now getting as hard to get Doos into Annan as it is the West Section .Fanciers in the West have purchased the Best from the East Coast Route FANCIERS and only a handfull have ever been any Good.Look at the distances from the S East Corner to the Central Belt Of Lanarkshire some 20miles yet it can take them nearly 2 hours to Fly 20 miles. :o well a national from ireland was mentioned and kicked into touch cant have west coast boys having an advantage now can we a national from lerwick/fareos naw cant have north boys having an advantage or can we its your vote
jimmy white Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 nat from sweden would sort them all out ,, could it be done 475 miles of water ??,, bet it could in the right weather,, same distance to aberdeen as to eymouth . glasgow would get direct overfly from edin ,,,never happen though :-/
doos r us Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 thats my point jimmy the snfc is a one way club nationals from different points would make racing fairer giving all sections a chance in at least 1 race clubmate d kennedy has proven you can race a young bird north then 1 to tow law and send and time from the national what are we waiting for
jimmy white Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 dont see why the birds wont race from different points,, remember the gentleman blind fancier my freind jed jackson, winning the pau nat with genista ,, the prevoius weeks it was at lerwick
me Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 dont see why the birds wont race from different points,, remember the gentleman blind fancier my freind jed jackson, winning the pau nat with genista ,, the prevoius weeks it was at lerwick Never happen Jimmy the east coast tram lines boys won't where it never in a month of sundays! Even if it was passed they would'nt send their doos therefore no "National"
majorpet Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 I race into the central belt of Scotland 14.4miles from hillend and I have said for ages about getting birds from peterhead frazerburgh ect ect but other ppl say they fly just as far as ours by the time ours come off the coastal line but I would still like to give it a try just to see what happens so anyone in that area who has some extra distance stock please pm me and we will get to find out at some point by trying watch who you buy from!!!!!!!!-best to ask joe murphy-he knows whos who-if it was me,i would start building a team-not just the odd one or two to fly to death. majorpet
pender Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 Deeks at this moment in time are you not flying the most consistant at nat races than you ever have, with some very good results? And take the first nat this year from newbury the south and the midland fed had great race from that point now that race point is west. do you think that it was down to your birds racing the west route that happenend.
pender Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 Think it was 1st sec 11th open major it also flew 17hrs on the wing from think it was avaranches as well. And deeks we race mid week from dunbar and there 6 to 7 peregrine nests there as well they are every where now, and ijust adding to the debate some times i think we would be better down the west then i think wait a min no that not the answer, but we are stuck because the east route is def not the way either, north route i would not mind a go at that then there prob as much birds of prey in the highlands as well.We all no the problems it the answers that are the hard bit.
frank-123 Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 hi pender think that would be a good route lerwick would be about 350 miles to central scotland dont know about faroe's islands or maybe norway should be able to get the distance but would the guys in aberdeen be happy with the distance they would fly and would the birds cross the sea? http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll=60.543775,-4.262695&spn=10.116378,22.983398&z=5&om=1

Pender, I take on board what you say about me flying more consistently, but it is not down to the route I am flying. It is down to me having more and better quality pigeons and working at them much more than I used to.We won the section in the Gold cup when flying down the east with Lanarkshire. The peregrines are everywhere but in my opinion there are much more casualties and losses down the west. Most fanciers in the Midland fed actually train their birds east. The answer is get rid of these f...... hawks, before they totally destroy our beloved hobby

Chris Little Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 I would love to see a return to Rennes and Nantes
Guest Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 I would love to see a return to Rennes and Nantes thats rite chris whenever you heard people talk about nationals it was always rennes ,nantes ,
Chris Little Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Thats right Sammy, just about every member of the public had heard of Rennes and Nantes which they all knew were associated with our great hobby. Even now many workmates still talk of Rennes and Nantes.... Before anyone jumps up and down, I am not discrediting anyone who has done well from the alternative racepoints, we were once 3rd Open Chenoise but they dont seem to hold the same magic and romance as the mighty names of Rennes and Nantes. Why are these racepoints no longer used by even our English comrades
Guest stevie-b Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 every section gets there turns in the nat over the past season we have had prevailing west winds which suits fanciers on the east but when the winds to the east it suits the west no-one can predict the wind
square_peg Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 I would love to see a return to Rennes and Nantes ME TOO BUT IT NOW TURNED OUT THAT RENNES WAS A CRAP LIB SITE :-/
jimmy white Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 ME TOO BUT IT NOW TURNED OUT THAT RENNES WAS A CRAP LIB SITE :-/ after having liberations from there since 1920 [apart from 5 races ] until 1999 still 3 magic words " THE RENNES RACE"
square_peg Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 after having liberations from there since 1920 [apart from 5 races ] until 1999 still 3 magic words " THE RENNES RACE" SO MOVE A WEE BIT BETTER FOR THE DOOS AND ITS STILL "RENNES" NOT ROCKET SCIENCE IS IT
pender Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Yes rennens had the magic affect, when i was growing up al the local people would ask if we had anything going to rennens this year, even remember sitting in one of the local social clubs one sunday afternoon listening to the turns that were on, and there were pair of twins who use to do poems not the classic kind lol, and that day in the poem was the rennens race and our loft stirling bros, now these people did not keep pigeons, but like the rest of the locals they new about it, and deeks i was not trying to apply it was down to the west route you were doing well of course all the other things you mention are needed, good birds etc etc, was just trying to point out it not dun you much harm in that respect. Yes getting rid of them a answer but lets be honest with ourselfs here. how hard have we tried, yes i no some people have fought on out behalf but as a whole i talking about, personaly i think we going about it the wrong way, of course keep the pigeons in our argument, as that is what we are fighting for. But outside of us who realy cares if we race pigeons or not, at this moment in time the big thing is the enviroment, so lets use it. Say there 100 thousand sparrowhawks 40 thousand percys, now say they take 1 bird every 2nd day now that is 420 thousand birds a week. Now if we lose them then the insect pop grows if that grows then the farmer need stronger pestiside to keep them at bay, plus the other imbalances that would occur if the birds were not there. Now we have printers in the sport why dont we fund a campaign, were they print out the truths about the great birds of prey, we then on the ground can leaflet as many houses all over the uk with them. Have marches with banners etc etc, everybody else that fights there corner does these things why not us.
