Guest Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 With all the uncertainty with bird flu/f&m and the continentals liberating at times to suit themselves in the international races wouldnt it be nice if we had a UK national race from somewhere like Pau,the specialist clubs could join forces for one race ive heard this was done before but before my time in the sport does anyone remember this race and what was the birdage like also i was wondering if there would be much interest (Pau was just an example) also it would be good if this site had spellcheck
bewted Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 sounds a good idea, whaT DO OTHERS THINK ??????????
thunderboult Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 i agree you lplates it would be a good challenge if they had say 1 race a year were everyone went together that's how these continentels get birds doing big speeds over 700/800 mls from places like barcelona they send a load and a big batch of birds will cover the ground easier than a couple just look at the tour de france bike race a lone guy will often go off on his own early but the pack just trundle's along safe in the knowledge that later in the day closer to home they will catch him up then someone who's fresh from the batch will win . if everyone in britian entered a race from say pau they'd be clocking good birds up in scotland most years i think , then instead of reading about invincible spirit we're b reading about inv.haggis
Chris Little Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I like the sound of it...... Invincible Haggis ;D 800+ miles up here, bring it on
Back garden fancier Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 With ever decreasing numbers, some feds send more birds than nationals. What if all specialist clubs had to disband and we just had the UK national club. There would be Scottish / Welsh / English sections. There could be a race every week and possible from two diffeent points. The birdage would be phenominal!! 50,000 plus every week? That would be one to win.

Guest Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Great idea,i would relish the challenge.
wayne77 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Think be great idea. The sport on this island needs massive shake up to catch continentals. In my opinion fed programmes should be set around at least 4 good all in one lib races on these days other feds should not be allowed to race from France. First race Lessay area, second messac area 3rd Saintes area and then a big one from Tarbes area. Obviously not naming actual racepoints and order of races does not matter. Think problem was in 1997 when had centenary race it turned out bad race and people never wanted go again. Feds, national and classics can have seperate results but should be one big one for whole lib but better produced than was in 1997. Problem is that I believe this concept will not happen in my pigeon life and i'm nearly 30 so may never happen. Think that as fancier looking at SNRPC good that go with NFC in 2006 and MNFC this year showing way forward no fear thats what should be.
mickmcgrevy Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I sugested something on similar lines to this last year, with the reducing membeship and low birdage with all clubs chasing the same birds, it makes sense to all go on the same day particlarly the specialist clubs. Most fanciers who are in to classic racing are members of more than one classic club, so it would easy to have all the classic clubs going to the same racepoint on the same day and members duplicating their entries. It would also make sense for the federations to do it, but somehow I just could not see it working or being given a try. I call it club mentallity, someone happens to live 2 miles into the east or just the other side of the motorway and they are suposed to have an advantage, or some other equally silly reason, but there it is. Personally I wish it would happen, but I won't be holding my breath. Mick
wayne77 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Agree with the advantage that some people think others gaining. Shame really. I feel that these same fanciers purchase birds from continent because of large birdage performances and birds buying from are down results but looks better as say 50000 in race but when a chance to compete against big birdage not a chance stay in own backyards. There was great chance this year with MNFC and NFC both at Alencon together on same day but seperate libs Do you think propositions to the NFC and MNFC would work towards a step in this direction? or would it be waste of my time?
mickmcgrevy Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Who knows, give it a try, it may open up the discussion a little further, but there are other clubs which could benefit from this type of racing, BBC BICC and no doubt some more. Mick
wayne77 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Well i'm only a member of MNFC and NFC so can only put proposition in with them. But as put think all should be involved including Scottish, Welsh and even Irish. But bit of dream.
thunderboult Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 could you imagine the faces on the continentels if we showed up for the pau international with 15/20,000 british birds :o
