Hi will be my first season with old birds next year what do you reckon should I race natural or widowhood. Somne people reckon its best to start with natural as a novice but widowhood seems to be what most people win with

well if it was me  i would race natural first season as it will give you a chance to race both cocks and hens and will maybe let you see if you have maybe something special among them, but you will have to make the decision in the end, but thats my thoughts, i race natural anyway and have always done this

if i was you paulo i would keep natural for a couple of seasons rome was not built in a day .if you try w-hood and you dont know what your doing you could be in for big loses.not sure how long you been racing but if new get to know your pigeons enjoy them theres more to winning a piece of useless paper.

im sure you will learn by your mistakes as i myself have made some very costly mistakes in the past. if your going to fly w-hood find a top w-hood flyer and get advise on feeding training etc  you wont get this from a book or video

good luck with what ever you decide

couldnt agree more :)  but maybe would just add that flying natural ,go to the best natural flier in your area [youll learn more about pigeons alltogether, flying natural, and still beat the w,hood boys :)  if you get the knack :) patience is the game with pigeons , but if you fancied a bash at the w,hood, would agree with above post, but would give it a year first :)

I personally would give it a bash at semi widowhood a good introduction to widowhood, and you can race highly successful on the method some of my best years were on semi widowhood, get your hands on Alf Bakers book ;)

i think as some others have said try natural till u get the feel of the birds, with natural it will be easier in ur 1st year, then as u get to know more about it then try other things.

i have raced natural all the time ive been flying which is only 10yrs.but it didnt stop me topping the fed and beating widowhood fanciers.at short distance.

all members in my club have flown natural this year bar 1 which he flew roundabout.in the averages 2 flyers beat him to the  combined points averages but he did win o/b averages......paul

sorry to confuse this issue for you, but i think the only way is widowhood, maybe you should try roundabout for first couple of seasons (to race both hens & cocks)

pair up your birds early & rear your young ones and get them clear / weaned away from old ones 2-3 weeks before first race (14 days lay / 19 days hatch / 26 days feeding) i.e. pair up approx 12 weeks before 1st race.

simple system overview is - keep cocks in original section, move hens into section next door, train cocks and hens seperate, both always entering into original section, but ushering hens over next door where they stay the majority of the time. they will get themselves into great racing condition being kept seperate, introduce them weekly 15 minutes prior to basketing for motivation.

Nothing to gain by not staying natureul in todays, indeed natural dominate most and especially on hard days and at the dstance. So i'd suggest learn that well first, tinker with both widowerhood hens and cocks - hens done proper are always more genuine, again especially on hard days and the distance.

Just look at the last few years of the Nationals and big concerns and see how the hens dominate, and read up and see the 'Natural results they are gaining. Our fed is also dominated by natural....

Good luck and don't over think!

widowhood is fine for those that race that way,a m8 of mine just took recently the 1st 5 positions flying natural in the welsh south road federation.  if ur birds are prepared well they will fly as good as anything, the method u fly ur pigeons isnt the way to win unless ur pigeons are up for it .

i wonder how many national winners this year have been widowhood? compared to natural? it would be interesting to know...paul
