Raccoon Killed most all my Pigeons

Raccoons killed all most all my Pigeons, I lost some very close friends, and I have

to start from scratch !! Please don't make my mistake. I left the fly pen opened. The

raccon killed all the pigeons except 6 which were able to fly out in the dark. The Raccon left the dead pigeons .I was told to wait up the next nite. The raccoon was sure to return about 1-2 hours after sunset. I had to put him in a trap and move him about 20 miles away before I released him. I also got bit in the finger. I had to get 5 set of rabies shots. What a horrible summer .

Please be sure you close up your pigeon coup at nite if you fly your pigeons.I had no idea we had raccoons in my town. I felt so bad after finding all my favorite birds dead on the floor. I was very close to them, I hand fed them , if I walked outside they would fly and land on my should or head when ever I walk in my back yard.

 

I hope this never happens to anyone

Thanks Shadow, I released him about 20 miles away, if he is to return he better be able to swim about a mile , I released him on the other side of the Connecticut River. I still need to be sure that the rest of his family don't come back.

 

I was told once a Raccoon finds livestock nothing can stop him from comming back. You must catch him and take him away. They always return the next nite, about 1-2 hours after sunset to eat the pigeons they killed the day before. Thats the only time you can be sure to catch him.

That means you have let him go to kill someone elses pigeons now he has a taiste for pigeon, like Ganster I would have eliminated the threat :-/

Hi Roosterboy, I am very sorry to hear of your loss and knowing nothing can replace these birds as they were very special to you, I'm very close to my birds too and I feel for you at this terrible time.

Just wire the place and plug into the electric mains! Or buy a electric Fence, no raccoons. My mate in Canada has same trouble with Raccoons and weasels.... I wouldn't! But Raccoons are crafty and vicous, and do  / will return every night. Good luck.

my naghbor has like 20 pet racoons!! i hope they never get out! we have lots or racoons hers, i ofter see poop near my loft, its bigger then my dogs, but the same, my dog is a chuiwowa, and the poop is larger then hers, so its not hers so whos is it? cats or racoons, we have lots of them,
