I started last year and the best advice i got was try and get pigeons of someone who is flying them and not some big stud.

i wasted a lot of money on youngsters from pigeon stud's and only have one left(from louella that one is).I'm not saying these pigeon studs have bad birds its just as a novice i feel i needed homers more than racer's .I made so many mistakes during my first season i think the birds that i paid  money for i might still have now if i was a bit wiser .I even lost a a  pair of M&D evans vandebelle's .

Anyway that would be my advice. That and plenty of Garlic :)

Be prepared for some hard knocks and not to get down hearted

my best advise to a new starter would be to get a partner from the start.

pigeon racing is so hard on yah own but with the partner take the ees off, it helps in many ways from cleaning training, decision making etc.

and go so a locol fancier and buy late breds from his widow cocks at the end of the year.

oh and 1 very important thing read as much as u can.

If you're going to take advice, stick to one person's, most people think differntly and mixing advices and systems can lead to DISASTER

I would say number one is to build the best loft you can that fits your needs, as has been said on here build it MUCH bigger than you figure you want.  Most new flyers have a hard time culling pigeons, if you don't cull then soon you will have lots of culls.  Next thing is to find a good medication system from  someone that flys in your local area, find out what meds they are using and WHY they use them, next and lastly buy the best stock you can afford, I would say never to buy them from someone that sells birds for a living, if they don't flew em then never buy em.  And the birds you buy will need to be for the races you fly.  For instance it would be a waste of time to buy distance birds if you clubs longest race was 225 miles.  Best of luck to you.  Ed
