hi all,

 

now please dont think im thick but i need someone to explain something thats been a bit of a mystery to me for some time.

 

 

the word "DOOS"  !

now i know it obviously means pigeons and i get the impression its a scottish slang word (though i may be wrong) but what are the origins of the word and its relation to pigeons ???

 

 

 

for the life of me i cant see how you can get to DOO from pigeon......please enlighten me folks,

p.s  i bet there are one or two other members on the site that have wondered the same thing ?

(Before anyone takes offence this is meant in jest) Hi Homer i thought it was cos a few guys would be in thier garden on a saturday afternoon looking at empty skies shouting com on you can Doo it in the hope to spur thier birds on from libsite

The Scots aint caplable of the pronouncing Ov... like in Love or Dove, only OCK ooh andand sometimes ay and AYE! bEspecially Ock Aye which covers a multitude of sins lol :P:o:P ;D

Quite surprised on the spelling of the hut wot they bide in, always called it 'dookit' [what probably comes from dovecote] but see the scots dictionary says its 'doocot', 'doocat' or 'ducat' depending on what century you lived in.  :)

 

But the most topical must be 'flee the blue doo'  ;D  ;D  ;D early 20th Century  ;D  ;D  ;D send out a messenger surreptitiously for whisky  ;D  ;D  ;D modern translation "wuman, get yer ass doon tae Asda fur a boattle o' Bells!       :K)  :K)

doos?? lots of meanings from a BOX, to dog POO, and a canaidian regiment, but nothing connecting to pigeons

 

 

thats my point !

     i couldnt see the connection . . . but i will settle for the "doves" thing.
