Guest chrisss Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 in my fathers in laws time[1970s/80s] if you got a sick bird you put it away on its on, gave it 24/48hrs then "nutted it" so no big bucks to the drug companies for "repeats" the cost/colour/strain[what is a strain anyway?]did not matter to the "old boys"chrisss

The White Rapido Man Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Assuming that the top tips do not just relate to health.... If you are finding that your nestlings are dying on you for no apparant reason at all.....make sure that you don't have a security light facing into your stock loft!!!!!. This happend to me a few years ago......I kept lost most of my first round.... .then I sussed that when the next door neighbours light came on.....the birds were nipping down for a drink......when the light suddenly turned off.....the grounded birds were plunged into complete darkness.......and could n't get back to their nest boxes...................babies chilled................and subsequently died. no illness.............just a simple oversight!!!!

Ronnie Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Anyone can read up on health and basic management so do it. The biggest tip for the racing season is get a sensible system and DONT change it .My biggest mistake when i started was being over eager and trying to do everything everyone else was doing.Get a system for feed and training and then be patient. But never forget you are meant to be enjoying it .
EAGLEOWL Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 keep it simple dont have to many birds enjoy what you have dedicationand hard work 365 days a year
sapper756 Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 My Tip. NEVER upset the FEMALES on this forum
snowy Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 2 cut up cloves of garlic in a 2 ltr bottle of water left for 24 hours once or twice a week. give to the birds. this was the best tip i was ever given by (bruno & jimmy white) of this forum. keep it simple dont buy all that fancy expensive stuff. hope this helps.

I have to agree with this, find a system that fits you and stick to it, in my first racing season back in 1995 i did very well on the first race but on the second one not so well, then i decided to change my system to get better results but only got worse, my biggest mistake. And don´t get fooled by the ads stating you will only win if you use this or that.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 what no treatments at all stuart find that hard to believe And so do I !!!!
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 my tips 3)have a health program in place for the season cheers Paul think the one tip I have quoted from you Paul is the one that I feel is the most important one of them all, have a good health programme put in place for the whole year and stick to it, which is something I now do since the problems I had this year with my young birds and I intend sticking to a well organised health care plan the whole year round from beginning to the end of the year
steve d Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 the best tip i can give is never leave grit and minerals in front of pigeons as when it is damp it is a breeding ground for all sorts of illness. if you do insist on leaving it before your birds then change it daily. i am a big believer in having as many sections as possible with very few pigeons in each, if any illness was to break out you could with luck retain it within a section, hope this helps in anyway ;)
