Guest Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Posted about Pigeons on anotherForum I go on , 'Non Pigeon Related' this is one of the replies ''A few years back I picked up a distressed pigeon in my garden after a bad storm I nursed it for a few days and then released it. The bird wouldn't leave and would come down to me every time I went in the garden. It had a ring with a number. I was able to contact the pigeon racing association who gave me the phone number of the owner. Contacted him and asked him what I should do about the bird, could he collect etc. His response: "If it didn't make it back from the training flight it's no good. Just wring it's neck and put it in the bin....." Some sport....'' This is a disgrace, i feel like contacting the person who replied with this message and asking for the name and number of the so called fancier who said this, to a non-pigeon fancier. Its a sad sad state of afairs, when your own can't even help you out and saythe right things.
tommy d Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 i have reported a lot pigeons to fanciers over the years and had same responce makes you fell like stop reporting the birds. but i have also had very good responce from some who couldnt do enough so what do you do. :-/
Guest shadow Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 this has been going on for the past 20 years that I know of and nothing happens even when mentioned to the RPRA

We have had a couple of good responses when we have phoned keepers up about their birds, One guy came all the way from aberdeen for his bird and we dropped off another in edinburgh to another guy who really wanted his back, although he said that it would never get out again as he would use it as a stock bird, but, at least he didn't kill it. ;D
bewted Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 how can you get racing pigeons called a sport when idiots like that fancier says that, especially to a non fancier,,,,that maybe why pigeons get a bad name mostly coz of theses idiots, pity there was no way to deal with this promptly through the rpra ASAP!!!! this fancier should be brought to book and suspended or what ever !!!! BLOODY DISGRACE TED !!!!!!!!!! PS,if up to me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,shoot the b----rd at dawn
Guest SMUDGER PETE Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 ITS A PITY FANCIERS DO THIS BUT IT DO GO ON THEY SHOULD STOP AND THINK ABOUT IF IT WOULD BE THEM HAVING THERE NECK STRETCHED.ALL LIVING SPECIES BLEED THE SAME AND FEEL THE SAME PAIN, WE ALL HAVE RED BLOOD, SHAME THEY HAVEN'T GOT THE BRAINS TO THINK THERE JUST IDIOTS
coey Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 a gentlemans bird came into my loft in july. i reported it and although the owner was of ill health, he still had the bird picked up via his mate. just over a week later (on my birthday) the bird came back to my loft with a fresh rubber on. i reported it again and it is now transfered to me.

coey Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 there should be some sort of rule ,that states if your bird is reported, you must make necessary arragements to have it returned or transfered.

barlbymark Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 yeah there is the rpra say that the owner has to make arangments for the bird to be collected if you not happy with what the owner said to you get back to the rpra and report him and they will sort this problem.
sammy Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 heard loads of stories along the same lines ie non fanciers reporting birds and getting told to do exactly the same ,THE THING IS WHENEVER YOU ASK THESE NON FANCIERS FOR THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE FANCIERS CONCERNED THE JUST SEEMED TO HAVE FORGOT OR LOST IT WELL WHY DONT THESE PEOPLE IF THEY ARE SO CONCERNED ABOUT THE PIGEONS WELFARE REPORT THEM TO THE APPROPRIATTE UNION ,NAME AND SHAME THEM THEN WE WILL ALL KNOW WHO THEY ARE INSTEAD OF STARTING STORIES WERE THERE IS NO NAME TO THEM ,THE REASON I BELEIVE IS THEY CANT ITS ALL FALSE ANOTHER ATTACK BY THE ANTI BRIGADE AND WE ALL FALL FOR IT , thats my oppinion and untill they start to put names to them nothing will be done ,GOSSIP MERCHANTS .
mac1 Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 i always report them, to give them half a chance.but hardley any are returned hear all the storys its off this and that,i would never make another fancier send for one they didnt want,so now when im talking to owners i gave them a choice
crazy pigeon boy Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 thats not the best thing to say to a non fancier whos trying to help and going out of there way to report the bird and help it most people would just walk right past it and not even care
Guest Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Had fanciers tell me to neck them numerous times, soon as they say that I realise they are just irresponsible low lifes because afterall not only are they not prepared to face up to their responsibilities as a decent person and to the sport as a whole but they aren't even worth the price of the phone call!!,needless to say I just re home the bird to a more suitable owner
Guest slugmonkey Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I get about 20 calls a year from various folks around here about found birds I ALWAYS go get the bird right away and then deal with the owner later some want birds back and some will have me cull them but the important thing is get them away from the people that find them I send most back and I have nursed a few back to health and released them as well
