I have gone back to feeding barley this winter after the moult and keeping my few prisoner stock on it .The barley is fat high quality UK barley from the local farm near Cheltenham and they are doing well on it .I have seen some fancy bagged barley from the Continent and it wasnt anywhere near the standard of the local barley and double the cost.I have told my friend who is now using the farm barley to bite it and check it and to get a sample before he buys.

I have read a good article by Mike Staddon concerning barley feeding as well he made alot of good points and he also stated to check its quality .At between £4/5 a bag it makes good feeding and econmoic sense.

good barley should sink in a glass of water, and not float

As most  good grain will,  ;)

Is there a certain way to feed this? For example do you ration the birds, or feed till 1st bird goes to the drinker? And how long would you keep them on barley only?

some fanciers dont realize how much a pigeon needs barley

barley is a stable part of the birds diet i always use barley and the birds look great for it

My hens are on 100% barley and my cocks 50% - as much as they can eat.

They are in good feather, light and boyant, droppings like marbles, and well ready for pairing.

Let out weekends only ,the hens are doing over 2 hours.

And at £5 per 25kg you just cant beat it
