after returning from taking my son to school, the neighbour knocked and told me she had chased 3 lads away from my loft at 3 am. i have only lived in this house for 3 weeks, so looks like i have a bit of a problem.

Buy yourself a big dog that can live outside and does alot of barking when anyone is around.

will definatly help because all these lads are oppertunists and anything that will get in there way will deter them.

i have a 2yr old japanese akita, but she is dozy and playful due to being my 6yr old sons pet. i will be getting an electric fence when i have saved the money. for short term i am looking to get a baby monitor for plus window sensors to put inside the loft.

Is that 3AM or should it read 3PM if its AM then why are kids out at that time of night i'am sure my son would not be out at that time and if i found out he was then there would be hell to pay, I think if you ever catch these kids you should find out were they live and go and give there parents a good kicking that would stop the kids coming round, if the parents thought they were going to get it everytime there child was misbehaveing they would soon sort them out.

i would if i could afford it mate. due to being unemployed,it's a bit difficult at moment. i put all the money i had, into buying my loft and some birds. i was advised that it was bad for house burgalers around here, when i moved in. now seems there is also loft robbers aswell

i am looking to buy motion sensors for windows (3 pound 50) for 2, off ebay. they work with a infra red beam. should be ok until i can afford electric fence

i will torch-er them if i get hold of them. makes you wonder how they know within 3 weeks there is a loft here. i have no birds flying out. so obviously someone close to my house.

I would definitely go with getting a dog,you have his presence on a 24/7 basis,and his deterrance is his bark,when they hear this,they have no way of knowing who else does.

i wouldnt if i was you,i did it 10yrs ago and got 21 month jail for it,and now find it very hard to get a job,most jobs do a check to so if you have a record,dont want to no you then.

Sorry to hear that tom, I probabley over reacted there but these guys  some how should be taught a lesson, what gives them the right to be were they are and doing what they do at that time of night, As on a previus thread CCTV might do but that could be to late once they have torched your loft, or stolen all your stock.

I'm sorry to hear of your problem. At 3am, these aren't lads on a night out, these are thieves doing their rounds.

 

Security light might be a first fairly cheap option? Darkness is the prowler's friend, light an enemy to be avoided.

 

Open plan garden (with fenced or hedged boundary) - open spaces give no hiding places.

 

'Beware of the Dog' signs.

 

Dummy burglar alarms (empty boxes that don't contain an alarm and aren't wired).

 

Remain on your guard for a while - they'll be back.

it's certain they will be back. i just purchased infra red alarms from ebay,to put inside of loft. so if they do manage to get in alarm will sound. might even put one on outside of loft. they should be here tomorrow. looks like a late night for me tonight.

Just be careful when puting up the fence, (as i think) if you don't have any signs saying there is an electric fence there I am sure they could sue you if they were injured. I sell the anti vandal paint and the same applies to that you need to put the signs up.
