Guest Vic Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Darkness or Lightness? All part of the Solar Sytsem, and I,m sure most pigeon flyers, will experience it, within the next two decades or so. Today, after watching "Time Team" (One of my favourites) I decided to put my ybs on the darkness at 16.15, to suit my own requirements. I will be lifting the shutters each night,, enabling them to witness a normal dawn. I try to use the dark system to get the best out of my limited amount of racers, Others, with unlimited stock, pair in Mid December, with similar results. Penny for your thoughts. ;)Vic.
Guest jamesa Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 i find that the light system works and they are ok to pair by december as you dont have to push out the last feathers
Jumbo Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 What is the shortest time to have your youngsters on the dark 6 to 7 weeks?????
nigel holloway Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 8 weeks the shortest,if you start on the first of april till first of june NO PROBLEM will moult great.
Tony C Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 The winter months gives plenty time for thoughts on how the darkness is best approached lol and come spring be none the wiser. Would it be more beneficial to have them witness a normal dawn like your intending? would it be more beneficial for them to be able to roost and witness sunset? Would either way make any difference as both are unnatural whatever way you want look at it. I open my y/bird shed up after the w/hood cocks have been exercised & fed, this has the benefit that the y/birds droppings can be checked undisturbed, stops the yearlings from seeing life in that loft and wanting to get back in there instead of exercising, once I've opened them up I haven't got to visit the lofts again allowing the w/hood cocks to rest for a good few hours.
