bewted Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 i think you well get better results from your back garden !!!! lets face it,would you want to go up to the allotments in all weathers,,day in,day out ????
Castleview Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 I'd go for the garden every time. Alotments tend to get problems with thefts, arsonists and animal cruelity by massacring the birds. As you say you can spend time with them. Become a quality fancier not a quantity. Every year pick you best and sell the rest in the paper, or cull them yourself. After 10 years you'll have a good team of birds breeding quality birds

Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 i have bird on the alotment at moment but am thinking of changing over thanks for the advice
ALF Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Have to have mine in a compound and dont think i would move them to the back garden if i had the chance as i love spending time down there during the summer.Bit more work in the winter having to carry water down every day and the feeding once a fortnight but the craic is great down there during racing and you can sit and chill out with a few beers and wait for the birds with a few club members ;D ;D ;D
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 yer i will miss it in the summer but not winter
Merlin Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 My own opinion would have to be back garden if at all possibile,as time spent travelling is less time with birds, just my opinion
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 i agree i did fly better the one year i was in the backgarden
Castleview Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 At least at home the wife can make a cuppa tea, downfall is she can clobber you with a frying pan if you spend more time with the pigeons than her ;D ;D ;D ;D
Guest j.bamling Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Back garden Lofts everytime, the more time you spend with the birds the better Quality not Quanity
RoryTheRed Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Back garden, keep a good supply of mags and cider nearby ;D
GROVEHOMER Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Rory, I don't think Ben is old enough to drink cider! ;D ;D
Guest IB Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 I think your own back garden is the best place to have your pigeons.
Guest shadow Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 as you said yourself your time is limited with your schooling etc so a smaller amount of birds to look after makes sense good luck.
Guest Paulo Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 i think you well get better results from your back garden !!!! lets face it,would you want to go up to the allotments in all weathers,,day in,day out ???? Allotments are for real men not big jessies lol
stevebelbin Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 I raced to both and for the atmosphere and race aspect the allotment are best, but you cannot beat having them in the garden in winter, with the opportunity to light the loft up etc. You do tend to get a lot of bickering down the garden mind, but if you can live with that and can put up with the winters give the allotment a try.
ALF Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Allotments are for real men not big jessies lol Too right ;D ;D ;D
Guest Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Allotments are for real men not big jessies lol so why are you on a allotment ;D

It helps if your dad is hard as nails like me and I had to drag him away from the other pigeon men. Then everybody accepts you in the pecking order and things go smoothly. Seriously through joking aside garden is better allotments are lovely in the summer but in the winter its horrible and when your wating for a channel bird and daresn't even nip to the chip shop for some bait. Take no notice of belbin he isn't dedicated enough he's more interested in fast bikes and fast women these days a proper pigeon man needs to eat, sleep and breathe pigeons.
Guest Paulo Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 so why are you on a allotment ;D Cause my dad wouldn't let me build a loft in his horse field and stables when we got kicked off the old gardens lol ;D ;D ;D
paul l Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 i think you will get better results from your back garden and yur on site and dont have to go to far
