Pompey Mick Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 One of the biggest threats is the sanitization of everything, any keeping of animals, especially in urban areas, is lookes upon as unsuitable and a haven of disease by the 'authorities'. There will be a shortage of places to keep pigeons as all modern estates have covenants on them to stop people keeping so much as a budgie. Most fanciers started as kids with a few strays in a rabbit hutch, this doesn't happen now. Modern Mums wont let their kids touch animals let alone keep 'flying rats,' even if they could.

Guest shadow Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 they do provide allotments in most areas but stipulate for growing purposes only
Guest Vic Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 they do provide allotments in most areas but stipulate for growing purposes only Like most housing estates these days, there are more rodents bred inside, than out. ......and as you say,
DOVEScot Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Like most housing estates these days, there are more rodents bred inside, than out. ......and as you say, There are as much two legged rodents in all types of housing, not just the estates
Guest Vic Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 There are as much two legged rodents in all types of housing, not just the estates My last posting was cut short somewhat dramatically, but some have the gist of it. Allotments? They have always been part of the game, but with the savage society kids, of today, who could sleep tight, having pigeons on allotments, these days?

You only have to look at lofts that have been sabotaged in fanciers own back gardens, never mind the allotments, and it is not just kids who have carried out horrendous acts, it has been done by well known fanciers out of sad and sadistic revenge
doo Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 PIGEON FANCIERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bang on !!! especially up here in Scotland :-(
Merlin Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 PIGEON FANCIERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got to go with this one, CHIEFLY OURSELVES.
The White Rapido Man Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 this will be my first year racing................... Already I have heard several sarcy comments made about me by some of the bitter and twisted old men that frequent the local club house..... What amazes me is they voted me in...have never met me.......then bad mouth me. In the one breath they complain that no one wants to join the clubs.................. is there any wonder? They are worse than freaking women.............. Personally Im not too fussed about 'inner politics' and sour comments by the jealous old men ....... and to be honest, the ony thing I worry about is predation by cats and hawks........... I love my birds....... not the club house or Sam Smiths.... Preparations are going well and the youngs uns are almost ready to go down the road............I really hope it comes together........then they'll have something to really moan about........ I quite enjoy being the 'Lone Ranger' ;D .....................but thats life
Guest slugmonkey Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 BUL$#&T Lets face it racing takes a lot of work and commitment and love of the birds . AYSO* soccer has conditioned american kids that everyone plays and everyone wins
Guest slugmonkey Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 I also agree that a bunch of bitter old guys are wrecking it for everyone !!!! I am dealing with a bunch of old guys that have been HARD to change ( they split our club ) and I am sure that they thought we would soon fold but we are flying more birds than ever and getting new members . we have 12 members and are flying 280 birds a week average, they have 11 members ( counting wives and children ) and are averaging 80 birds a week. and just handed us a plan where they would run a combine that they would use our truck and driver that we could fly for about 25.00 a year
Guest slugmonkey Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Did I mention that the guy that is dominating their club has won 1 race in 7 years in the club we run ???

Roland Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Would say - especially after reading some posts here - that the same ole cods wallop being dished out, and sadly some are trying to believe it it would appear ( :(. I say, believed that this is high on the agenda why folks leave! More sadly it makes it a little harder every time not only to recruit new members, but to keep them. Golly just listen to yourselfs some of you, every crap notion, mindless, and may I say unbelievable nonsense readily dished out. Yes what a sad lot we are, no wonder we can't entice many new members.

Roland Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Best not, sometime best to let lying dogs sleep, and sleeping dogs lye lol Best doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out all the negatives and lame ducks, crutch holders etc.
DOVEScot Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 Best not, sometime best to let lying dogs sleep, and sleeping dogs lye lol Best doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out all the negatives and lame ducks, crutch holders etc. So there are no negatives in pigeon racing that are causing members to leave or think twice, what about Boomerang who got his loft burnt to the ground by mindless thugs which could have also led to his house being set alight Luckily Boomerang has had the energy to fight back and continue and all respect to him but does not dilute the treatment that should be handed out to the thugs that are roaming our streets, a lot would not blame him if he left the game.
