Guest Vic Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 After my most recent posting, re, the ybs. It seems that I may have stumbled upon the reason, why some of us that dont live near motorways aren't getting our birds from the direction they should be coming. Food for thought. LOL. Vic.

rembrant2coo Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 IT CERTAINLY IS IF YOUR TOSSING FOR THE NATIONALS I ENVY GARETH R AND A FEW OTHERS WHO STAY NEAR THEM I KNOW OF A FEW WHO STAY NEAR THEM WHAT AN ADVANTAGE
Guest strapper Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 i recently saw a programme where it showed that pigeons do follow certain sites like motorways rivers etc, same as humans get used to a route home travelling it several times. when training my birds they nearly always travel down a bypass near my home.
OLDYELLOW Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 Is living near a motorway an advantage? Only if theres a Burger King or KFC drive thru
Guest Vic Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 Is living near a motorway an advantage? Only if theres a Burger King or KFC drive thru Living where you live. They'd be stale when you got back! lol.

Guest Freebird Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 That's fine for the birds until there are roadworks and detours coz we all know what happens to us silly b*ggers on detours. Ahahahaha!

Novice Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 They definately follow motorways and railways and rivers where it is advantageous to them. Don't get me wrong the bird doesn't deliberately say I will follow a motorway or river. It takes the route which gives it most shelter from the elements which often means the above. Jack Adams preached this theory all those years ago. He spoke of the tramlines into Scotland which may have been an exageration but we understood what he meant.

Would be great to train from 40 miles direct south down the M74 but how many doos would i have left for the national races i fear it would not be very many. Cheers Gareth Envy location i think you would need to look at Delboy. ;)
