lordcornwallis Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 hi there i have a cock who has been sitting on a small young bird (5 days) since friday will he continue to rear this yb by himself? i have nothing of a similar age to move him under . thanks
timbarra Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 the answer to this is yes, but do not give him a hen as he may pay her more attention than the youngster.
REDCHEQHEN Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 I wouldn't bank on it ours certainly didn't - wouldn't sit at night
sapper756 Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Have to agree with Redchequer, a little young to expect the cock to sit it all day and night, however, I may be wrong
jimmy white Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 yes youll get some older cocks actually thrive on it but at that age , a little young im afraid , theyll do it no prob after 10 days
Andkar Lofts Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 had a yearling racer cock that raised a pr of yb's from 5 days old after losing hen ,did a damn fine job of it aswell, both youngsters where equal in size & quality on weaning ....in my opinion depends on the individual bird ..........
THE FIFER Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 There is no sure answer to this one, some will and some wont, if they get hold of another hen they will stray,
hicky Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 when he gets fond again he will think about other things so for me no
schouwman71 Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 had a yearling racer cock that raised a pr of yb's from 5 days old after losing hen ,did a damn fine job of it aswell, both youngsters where equal in size & quality on weaning ....in my opinion depends on the individual bird .......... agree on this,it all depends on the pigeon himself and if theres plenty of snap for him.
Merlin Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Its a bit much,as at 5 days old it needs to be kept warm 24/7 this is where the parent will struggle, but again its a question that can only supply its own answer.
