i dont know a serious racing man who would want their birds in one basket. maybe its the old adage of not putting all your eggs in one basket .  will be intersted in any reports on clubs who do it

I'll let you know mac how it goes. My own personal opinion is that stress is the major contribution to illness.

Tony i agree ---i believe exactly in what you say stress one of our greatest problems.  beware of the over and misuse of antibiotics

Some think that if there birds are all in 1 basket they will stick together at lib and home ina batch!

i dont think that all i put up some good reasons for keeping the birds in basket how can anyone think they will stick togeather even 500 birds left up at a lib and a basket of 15 birds are going to stick togeather dont think it will happen

hi all regarding miltons you cannot use miltons in tanks or troughs that are metal or galvinised as it causes a reaction with the metal

theres loads of reasons why birds of one fancier cant be put in one basket :

1)  basket might not open with rest

2)  basket might get damaged and escape, race over if in one

3) easier to cheat

I can see the benifts also i.e not in with birds that arent been looked after from a poor perfoming loft , but my advise is to help them and then reduce the risk by pointing them in the right direction

would you want all your birds in the basket that doesn't open with the rest?

Phil

would rather that then my birds being put in other hampers with other birds with parmyxo parathyphid and all these new strains that are coming on the scene and id imagine your argement is not something that is rare enough

also could divide club baskets into locations i.e 4 lofts next to each other ectra but once there among a few thousand i bet they cant keep together that easily

how many more if every one wanted there own basket

25- birds a crate if you can fill a crate , or near enough fill it , you can buy , if you cannot fill double up with another fancier , it has cut down x-infection

but surely doubling up is defeating the object ie infection

it has worked , in our club birdage could be from 700-1200 by the 4th y/bird race ,

x-infection was reduced dramatically , fancier's feed back confirmed this as fact

we tried plg in the water when i was wit central fed yes it stoped the spread of any thing in the drinkers thats because the birds dont drink from them untill they absolutely had to thats if a hold over i would rather take my chance with nothing in the water and treat on return than a bird not ketting a drink in the basket try it in your own loft put anything in the drinker and the birds will go to the nearest puddle rather than drink from the drinker a non starter for me and thats proven
