Beans, Wheat and Barley, about 4 quid a bag last time i was there. Will be due another visit shortly.

Guest spin cycle Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 shouldn't be vat on straight feeds....not sure about mixes. even so the vat cut would only mean 25p off a bag costing £10. imported grains from europe will cost more soon as the £ weakens against the euro. i only buy straights wheat /barley £4. beans £7. both 25kg . i get maples off merchant £13/20kg (versle laga ). depending on the mix it costs about £ 7/week to feed my 30 pairs. i do buy proper mixes for ybs..i reckon ybs eat about 1kg / month once grown so large yb teams could come costly. i hopper feed everything all year round.
Guest slugmonkey Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 They are probably using that corn to make eathanol thats what is happening here they turn it into gas instead of feed and the price goes up
Guest spin cycle Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 They are probably using that corn to make eathanol thats what is happening here they turn it into gas instead of feed and the price goes up no not here the biofuel thing is nearly dead here...especially now oil is falling and charities are complaining that its pushing up food prices .
Guest slugmonkey Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 oh dont worry the cost of gas will be up again soon just wait until after the inuaguaration we think Obama is going to sign an exuctive order preventing offshore drilling and that will give the power right back to opec
Guest Taylors Choice Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 Pigeon corn is usually non VAT-able anyway. So the reduction in VAT makes no difference. Whilst Wheat and Barley prices have come down, many other straights are in such short supply the price continues to increase. Speciality Crops such as sunflower, canary, pulses, millet and safflower are all at higher prices due to the direct effect of the currency. This coupled with transport costs, which although fuel has dropped in price, haulage companies have not reduced their costs in general. So this is why in my opinion, the corn manufacturers are still increasing their prices.
