ally mac Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 I have copied the following post from Phoebe's web site. It looks like there is some good news, just in time for Christmas. We have been at home for 5 weeks now and we have been enjoying a lovely time together as a family. Within the last month we have been up and down to Glasgow three times and last week Phoebe was in hospital for three days as she underwent more tests and an MIBG scan (full body scan). Phoebe was very patient all week. The scan is unpleasant and takes one and a half hours, but thankfully she slept through most of it following an initial five minute struggle. During the time Phoebe was in hospital, she was kept in isolation due to being radioactive and was quite understanding and tolerant of all that went on. We returned to Glasgow on Thursday to get the scan results. These scans have turned out clear so Phoebe is now considered to be in remission. While we were there our consultant also showed us the original MIBG scan taken back in April and from it we could see that the cancer was much more widespread than we had first thought- the disease had spread to every bone. What a wonderful work has been done in her wee body. Looking back it is hard to believe the limits to which her body and mind have been pushed and now today to see her just playing and being a happy little two year old is such a joy. It is generally accepted that for children who have had neuroblastoma stage 4 and are in remission, there is the very real possibility that the cancer will return and for those to whom it does, the prognosis is especially poor. So for Phoebe we continue to praise God for the work that has been done in her and continue to pray and also ask others to pray that the cancer will not return, believing that "with God all things are possible" At present Phoebe continues with her six month Retinoic Acid oral treatment at home with little inconvenience to daily routine, during which time we also continue to look at all the possibilities for the future and are at present trying to gather a number of professional opinions as to the best way forward for Phoebe, all of which we will keep you all posted
