invalidusername Posted June 1, 2008 Author Report Posted June 1, 2008 what size loft can you fit in your garden? It's taken a lot of persuasion to get the 6x4 ;-)
pjc Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 And still having to work on getting the flight up!
invalidusername Posted June 1, 2008 Author Report Posted June 1, 2008 And still having to work on getting the flight up! I'm working on loads at the moment. I'll finish something one of these next days ;-)
Guest scoobybob Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 I have lots of bob wires if you want to make your own traps. Have you sorted your drinker, I have a spare 1 gallon drinker going spare, yours if you want it. Have you sorted the rings for the young? If not give me a shout I will give you a few with transfer papers.

I think making my own traps would be too ambitious for me ;-) Stuart (Swilcox) put me onto a place in Bristol to get a Sputnik, so I'll get one from there - not as cheap as buying my own, but in for a penny in for a pound :-) I was thinking about rings yesterday - loads to think about. If I could buy some off you, that'd be brilliant. I'd be very grateful. Could you PM me?
pjc Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 David, you will need to join the RPRA to enable you to register the rings in your name. Phil
DJ Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 he certainly looks contented now he,s got the missus with him youve done a top job david especially bringing him back to full health well done and good luck for the future if any of my pigeons are in your area i will tell them to look you up ;D debbie
REDCHEQHEN Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 David, you will need to join the RPRA to enable you to register the rings in your name. Phil I don't think you do I have pigeons transferred to me and I'm not a member - I have a NA number (non-affiliated) - which they usually give you also when you report a stray pigeon through them
pjc Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 But if David wanted to buy rings next year from the RPRA he would have to be a member
Lennut Tar Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 he certainly looks contented now he,s got the missus with him youve done a top job david especially bringing him back to full health well done and good luck for the future if any of my pigeons are in your area i will tell them to look you up ;D debbie Debbie !!!!!!!! our little champ here :) , is no different to most of us males etc. We are always much happier, when we have a good women beside us :P . Enjoy.
Guest scoobybob Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 I have informed David about membership to RPRA. I have offered David rings as he may not be time to join RPRA and order rings. Better he use mine and transfer than to have none at all.
Guest scoobybob Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 I joined RPRA not long back took 2 weeks for my card to come through. I then ordered rings and that was another 10 days. If you can join and order rings at the same time then you might get them a little quicker but don't know if this is permitted.

Can't believe they're going to hatch, but they've been constantly sat on for over a week. Nature's a wonderful thing.

David !!!!!!!! does that mean now ???????? ;) that many of us here, will be grandparents etc shall we say ;D ;D ;D when our little champ hatches out his eggs, shortly. What a great day that will be in my view, when one thinks back to how this topic first started :) & just maybe !!!!!!!!!!! there is hope for this great sport & it's not all doom & gloom as many tend to think. Enjoy.
pjc Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Have you checked the eggs David to see if they are fertile? Phil
invalidusername Posted June 6, 2008 Author Report Posted June 6, 2008 Have you checked the eggs David to see if they are fertile? Phil Thanks Phil. Have sent you a PM. I've made a decision, and it was tough and took several weeks. I didn't want to see 'Blue Boy', or 'Bluey' kept in a shed for the rest of his life. Now he has a lovely hen and some eggs, which he's taken his fair share of sitting on - I have taken advice (which goes against other advice I really respect from people here), and let Bluey out into the garden today. He went around the garden, flew onto the roof (really strong now), and came back down. I sort of ushered him back into the shed. He looked really liberated. I breathed a sigh of relief, and shut the door. I'm going to let him back out tomorrow, on the basis that now's the best chance to train him to come in and out - particularly with the eggs, and the Sputnik which I bought and fitted onto the shed today: This may be the most unwise thing I've done so far, but I really want to give him the chance to fly out and come back home. I'm not letting his hen out though (yet). Please don't tell me I'm doing the wrong thing. I know how much the story has been supported. David
Guest chrisss Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 DO NOT LET HIM OUT TOMORROW ITS RACE DAY AND YOU WILL LOSE HIM,sorry for shouting i was hoping that some one might have warned you about saturday's
invalidusername Posted June 6, 2008 Author Report Posted June 6, 2008 DO NOT LET HIM OUT TOMORROW ITS RACE DAY AND YOU WILL LOSE HIM,sorry for shouting i was hoping that some one might have warned you about saturday's OK,THANKS Sunday then.
Guest chrisss Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 sunday would be a lot better and just a little bit hungry then with a bit of food in the trap he should [and god knows everyone on the site hopes so]go straight in, with the hen and eggs you should stand a good chance of keeping him, frankly he would be daft to leave now
Guest chrisss Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 sorry mate i went to bed and whilst i was having a dream about an ex russian army flamethrower and some falcons [yes i know most dreams should be about supermodels and pogosticks!!!]i had an idea why dont you wait until the eggs hatch out?, if you wait until the young are about 18 days old[i think] he will start driving the hen again, also if he goes [god forbid] you are not stuck with a hen and a nest bowl with two cold eggs in it,its up to you, all the hard work has been done by your good self, but if he goes on sunday you are back to the start of it again i/e one pigeon in a shed
Lennut Tar Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Well David !!!!!!!, that was a big decision you just made ;D ;D ;D & it all worked out alright so far ;) . I imagine now ??????? the odds are in your favour here, next time our little champ is let outside again to have a fly. PS, Congratulations !!!!!!!!, on the effort you have put in with your new loft etc. It's a little beauty. Enjoy.
invalidusername Posted June 7, 2008 Author Report Posted June 7, 2008 chriss: that was definitely some dream :-) your advice makes perfect sense. Lennut: thanks. Am pleased with the Sputnik. Took ages to assemble as I think whoever wrote the instructions must also have invented the Rubiks cube :-) Cheers guys
